Any advice from anyone who has done their own GC'ing?

My husband will be the GC in our upcoming kitchen remodel. He's quite skilled and more than qualified, he used to be in the business, but he changed careers some years ago.

It wasn't our FIRST choice, only because of the time/work factor, as he is busy with his own FT job (although he's still self-employed, so he's flexible).

The deciding factor was, honestly, the COST. We were just not able to stay in budget with someone else doing the GC work.

He's quite driven and high-energy, so I don't think this project will drag on longer than necessary. In fact, his goal is to have everything done and ready when the cabinets come in (6 weeks or so), and I have no doubt that he will be successful with that!

He's not installing the kitchen, though. We are paying to have that done.

So has anyone else done their own GC'ing? Any advice or stories to share?!

Thanks!
