Would 8x10 be better for this space - and does it need to be centered with window? Husband is worried it doesn't leave enough of a walkway (especially if we put sideboard against wall couch is facing. Furnishings (including white fixture againat wall are temporary and used to determine space - will ask this advice in next post;)

8 years agoCan you take a photo face-on from center? Is there equal space from left wall to drape edge?
Is the vertical & horizontal center of the taped rectangle about 62" from the floor?

Comments (12)Well, Had our first meeting with design/builder with plans today. He had actually put the toilet in the 'old bathroom' and just made a closet rather than a walk-in closet. I was aghast at the idea of losing my walk-in, so we contemplated adding a couple more feet of length- he put the toilet facing the vanity, and had the short wall enclosing one end of the shower which would run lengthwise 6' X 3', and tub placed centred on end wall- so basically turning everything I had drawn above 90 degrees. Have to admit, much better plan than I had had. Visually so much more appealing, and gave more room for everything including a 6 foot long vanity with two sinks. Adding two feet would actually give us a 6' vanity plus a 2 foot wide linen tower across from the toilet. However, while in present bathroom tonight, got to thinking... perhaps having toilet in a separate room is not a bad idea- and I really would only be losing a few feet of closet space and gaining a much more elegant and spacious looking bathroom. AND we could probably forego having to add another 2 feet to bathroom. So, here is an updated plan, now I have SO much space for bath tub, I need ideas!!! Comments (90)I thought our 2300 sq ft. house was just perfect for the 3 of us... - then we decided I traveled too much for work and opened up my own business - in the house - then things grew and I added an employee - in the house - Then hubby took early out from the University and expanded his tax & consulting practice - in the house - then his practice grew and he added a part ime employee - in the house - then things really got successful and some parts of the year he can have as many as 3 employees - in the house!!! Net effect is that our 4 bedroom house some days feels like a 1 bedroom office - we no longer have a home. We are building on 20 acres in the country - house with a good sized office wing. I've redesigned about a dozen times and can't seem to get it down below 5000 sq ft. Comments (11)Yes, the rug is a bit large but it will work. Share a simple floorplan sketch with room measurements for best advice. Are you considering a wood or tile floor in the future.? If yes, start a floor fund with the money you "save" by not returning the rug you love. Also,what is the room on the other side of the fireplace? Comments (36)I like the 2 upholstered chairs & the blue rug, The other rug does ”match” the cow painting but it’s too busy for me when combined with granite counters & other textures you have. The blue rug pattern is also detailed but its strong lines & clean color placement goes well with style of DR furniture - including the mirror! The drapes don’t look bad with the blue rug - they don’t play well at all with the other rug. I’d add touches of the darker blue in rug to the table centerpiece & the buffet. That whole combo really creates a more vibrant dining setting.. Hope your little pup has recovered from the reason it’s wearing the ’cone of shame’ 😉...See Moremskdj

8 years agoSooooooo - the good news is that the black looks great and the frog tape worked pretty good (a few imperfections but I am probably the only one who will notice). The bad news is that I painted the wrong size:(. I am six inches short from top to bottom - should have triple checked those measurements!

8 years agoWell I finally repainted and got the size right! Unfortunately I didnt get it placed exactly in the centre (and though I mounted it I had to use removable tape to get it to lie flat - turns out tape is not so easy to remove). So for now it stays where it is :). If/when it falls off the wall I may employ a different hanging strategy

One thing maybe you can try before you purchase a coffee table. It will determine what size table you will want.
First, I would move the rug to the center of the windows. I think the entire furniture arrangement can be loosened up and spread out a little more.
If all the legs of chairs and sofa can be placed on the rug, there might be enough space for a coffee table. Or ... you can also place 'only the the front legs' (of all the furniture) on the rug to allow more space for a coffee table. Place both chairs and sofa positioned equally on the rug. That will give you an indication of the size coffee table you can use. You have a large room. Would you take a photo of that? I think it can work for you.

8 years agoBack at it and shifting spaces as the downstairs continues (kitchen reno). This is upstairs area for my little guys. Doors are to bedrooms and my hope is that "play" (ie - millions of little kids toys) can happen up here. Have just purchased carpet for more comfortable play. Does it work here, or can it work if it is shifted? Ideas to finish off little area?

8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoMaybe switch places with the tall bookcase and low cubby unit. You could add a shelf to the cubby unit to create a table top. Maybe even put on fold down hinges.and 2 chairs in front.
I would move the rug a little farther away from the doors, lined up with the cubby unit moved to the left.

8 years agoFinishing touches going on kitchen - so happy. Trying to figure out what to do with side wall. DH wants this large clock - I think a wine rack would be great:). Is there room for both - and what do you think of this one if I can get my hands on it? Totally open to suggestions:)

In the mean time.......look who is joining our family tomorrow (with some clear limits on where she can roam - ie. mudroom - lol).
