Heartfelt condolences to you and your friend.
So sad. I get the idea, though, that this family knew how to LIVE, not just let the days pass by. That's some small consolation in this time of sorrow. Your friend is lucky to have you -- and you to have her.
I am so sorry to hear about your friends son. So very hard for his wife and kids.
My brother died at the same age of a brain aneurysm and I don't think my mom ever got over it.
OllieJane, what a brave young woman you were! Of course, today there might have been a much different outcome. But I am impressed by your gumption.
All I'm saying to everyone, is don't assume that you have outwitted the bad guys. They are pros and know all the tricks that you've never thought of. Better to be constantly alert.
And I'm reminded of the many posts on our local nextdoor.com from people complaining that someone 'broke into' their unlocked car overnight and stole an iPad, money, etc. - and they get really huffy when commenters point out the obvious
Same here. It always amazes me. Can't imagine not locking my house or car.
I have a HUGE walk-in pantry...but...I fill hummingbird feeders ALL day long. For THAT I keep one clear glass canaster with a cork lid on the counter, filled with sugar. To the right of the sink....behind me is the pantry.
I like your vintage wood ones a LOT!!!!!!

Calico - that's just the coloring, it's not a breed. Hopefully she's spayed and not out bringing more kittens into the world. And hopefully she won't be injured or killed by cars or other animals. I can't imagine my cats running loose outside but I know lots of people allow that.
Beautiful coloring, but it's not a special breed, just a plain ol' DSH (domestic short hair.) Cats generally don't roam more than a block or two from their house, so it probably lives nearby.
It reminds me of when I was staying in the country. One morning I was home alone, lying in bed, looked out the window and saw a cat. At first I thought our cat had gotten out; then realized that the color was wrong. I grabbed my phone and took a video to help find the owner. The cat turned and ran with kind of a hopping motion. So then I thought, "Poor rabbit, something happened to its ears." I felt guilty that I hadn't gone out to feed or rescue it, but I wasn't dressed and didn't want to get out of bed. When my husband returned, I showed him the video. He said it was a good thing I hadn't gone out because what I had seen was a bobcat!
So sorry to hear of Glenda's passing. I always enjoyed reading about her travels and her relationship with Parke. My sincere condolences to her family. Rest in peace, dear Glenda.
I am so sorry to hear this. I was just thinking about her.
I haven't seen her post in a while. She will be very missed. I will get her a empty chair. Sending condolences to her family.
She was such a help to people and shared great recipes and cooking advice.

That's available free on the streaming platforms Tubi, FreeVee, Plex, and Peacock Kids, Donna - I love it too 🙂
Based on my love of all things SERIOUS EATS , I bought some sichuan peppercorns in 2019. I was underwhelmed. I detected no numbing effect and little spiciness. I used some of the peppercorns to make an oil. Ended up throwing most of it out. Very little flavor in my opinion.
you can find them at most asian or chinese shops ... at least in my area. i grind them up and add them to stuff. tongue numing yes ... start with 3-5 peppercorns and adjust up or down.
Very helpful! I want to try them!
Maybe she sent this cat on the aniversary of her death. Hmm.... what to do?
i think you know what to do. 😉
in 16 years of adopting danes from rescue, i can only think of a couple of times that i sought them out. all of the others found me. it always happened when i didn't think i needed another one but when push came to shove, i needed them, indeed.
