Master Bedroom/bath before and after pics DIY
Comments (18)Funny, funkyart, my house is a 1960's colonial...but I always wanted that old farmhouse. So we ripped out all (ALL) the wimpy moulding and baseboards throughout the house and replaced it with wide/substantial trim, Added hardwood throughout, and did everything we could to revamp the style. It's more of a colonial revival look throughout---with schoolhouse pendants, pedestal sink in the 1/2 bath etc. I bet you could make this work in your room too! I will post some pictures of the inside of the closet tonight so you can get a better idea of how big, and the layout etc. Pretty much, it is a wide reach-in. Not quite walk in closet, although it is big enough to walk into etc. just not to hang clothing on both sides. The entire closet is open, but closed off by the 3 sets of doors. 2 sets of the doors hold my clothes, and dh has one. Shoe cubbies fit on both ends (which may be may favorite part of the whole thing---Dh built them to fit shoes and purses.) The closet system is from Lowes, and I highly recommend it. You can customize it however you like and it really looks more $ than it is. We had priced out California Closets, and their bottom of the line style was almost triple the cost of these... and these are much nicer looking. If you can DIY, they are the way to go. Comments (3)bama12, meet houzz--"master bedroom" in the search box. (There are some really weird "in progress" photos there, not a clue why they are on houzz, but just scroll through those) Here is a link that might be useful: [Master Bedrooms Eye candy (& some duds)[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/master-bedroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_715~a_62-497?fi=16)...See MoreHelp me pick paint color for Master Bedroom (pics)
Comments (9)Thanks so much for responding. Does anyone have a suggestion for an ashen green? I don't know what that is. hoyamom - I never thought of blue for the ceiling. That's sounds interesting. I had thought about a gray/blue for the walls before we brought in the green chair. I really like the combination of blue and tan. lindybarts - any suggestion from you is like a pearl of wisdom. I LOVE your house! I think I may have to do a larger sample of Svelte Sage o the walls. I don't think it is too gray. Actually, in our DR it is a very nice green. However, we had a green bedroom in our old home and I fell out of love with it pretty quickly. It was more of a blue green, though (with a differnt comforter, etc.) I'm just afraid of painting a color that I'm not in love with. I don't want to be unhappy with my choice in two months. I already have painter's remorse in other areas of my home. And since we are hiring painters for this, I feel a little more pressure to pick the "right" color. Any thoughts on Svelte Sage for the walls with a beige on the ceiling so the crown would show up more?...See MorePlease help me redecorate my master bedroom!
Comments (6)The most economical solution would be to bite the bullet and paint the desk from your teenage bedroom set that you are using as a vanity. Then ditch the teenage dresser and move the vanity. The shelves in your towers are currently being under utilized and you say you need storage for folded clothes. I would put curtains on the glass with top and bottom rods and use the shelves for the folded clothing. If the only reason the black curtain is there is to hide the cords, I would remove it and fill the area with wicker baskets that have covers. This will hide the cords and offer more storage. Paint the purple shelf black. Since you say you are willing to budget some money for improving the looks and function of the room I think you would be happier if you just got rid of the teenage furniture altogether. Sell it on CL. Then get a second hand secretary desk that looks more grown up and use it for a vanity. Get one that has a hutch to fill the wall space and you can use the cubbies for storage too. One that sits on legs would look light and airy in the room, but if storage is an issue, get one with drawers below. The flip down work surface would stay up most of the time so as not to crowd the room. These secretary pieces can be found on CL for cheap. You will feel more like a princess doing your routine at one of these than at you old teenage desk. If you sell the desk and dresser, and get a secretary the cost might be a wash. If you are planning on painting the secretary black anyway, you can even get a scuffed up one for very little money. Then with a secretary painted black being used as a vanity on the wall, and all the other furniture black, I think you could leave the two towers as they are as the economical option. You don't want everything to be all black do you? You just want to not have a myriad of wood tones and treatments. Your idea to get an entertainment amoire is nice. I think that a TV hidden behind doors is more peaceful for a bedroom and would look better being less cluttery. An amoire would have a smaller footprint in the room and also give that wall some breathing space. They are cuter too and you could find one that looks very feminine. Again, CL to the rescue. Buying a clothing amoire and adding a shelf inside for a TV, will give you style options that are more suited for a bedroom than a rec room. They are usually on feet and a big bulky thing like an amoire in a smaller room needs feet to make it seem lighter. There are some nice entertainment amoires made for LR TVs and they can be found on CL for a song. A nice secretary as a vanity? ===================== An amoire for TV and clothing?
