Help me pick paint color for Master Bedroom (pics)

I cannot decide on a color for my master bedroom. We have a very neutral duvet and drapes, but I would like a paint color that could work down the road if I want to replace the duvet and drapes. I have samples of SW Svelte Sage, SW Grassland, SW Whole Wheat, SW Camelback, and SW Baguette on the wall and nothing is thrilling me. I have considered a reddish brown, but I'm not sure I want to go that bold. A slight complicating factor is we recently moved a dark sage chair and ottoman into the MBR from our overcrowded office (it is not shown in the MBR pics). You can see the matching loveseat in the last pic to get an idea of the color. It will very likely stay in the room.

I'm also wondering how to treat the tray ceiling and the tv niche. I have considered painting the ceiling in a complimentary color, maybe a shade or two lighter than the walls? Not sure if I should paint the outer portion of the try to match the walls or the ceiling.

I will be adding more artwork and new, heftier lamps at some point. I appreciate all suggestions and any photoshop help. Thank you all so much!

Before reading your message I was seeing red or clay. Not sure I'd want a bold color either...so, what about matching the color of the duvet/drapes and adding some throw pillows to the bed and the chair in order to bring in color? Your artwork will bring that to life too.

The other suggestion - maybe obvious - is the sage green - very calming, will match your chair and bring in some color - but I think you'll probably need more punch elsewher even with green on the walls.

You have a great start - it is a pretty room.

I am so jealous of your room size, it looks to be the size of about half my home! :-) I personally feel the windows on each side of your bed look too small, too high and out of place, almost like they were afterthoughts, which is why I suggested putting drapes up. Just one or two full-length (floor to ceiling) panels to hide the windows completely. That will give the illusion there are larger windows there while framing the bed. Even something more contemporary might work like rattan or wood shades as long as they go to the floor. Jodi-

What do you want the room to feel like? If you want calm and relaxing, you can’t go wrong with a soft blue which will look good with the wood tones you have and offer some flow with the gray in the other rooms. When I did our guest bedroom I used Hinting Blue by SW, loved it so much I put it in our master as well. I exhale every time I enter the room. If you want drama, a deep dark color like eggplant would look amazing, with some olive accessories, it would be gorgeous. happy and and casual, a soft almost shear apple green with some coral accents would be fresh and current.

It's helpful to start with art, or bedding (something you love). There are many thousands of paint color tones but very few pieces of art or fabrics that will fit all criteria (size/shape/colors/style/budget/subject matter etc). Have you considered a pretty white? That would probably look better with beige furniture. BM Swiss Coffee, White Dove and Chantilly Lace are all nice possibilities.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been through the Gallery postings many times (thanks Oceanna for posting all those picks). I do lean toward somewhat monochromatic rooms, but my dh does not want beige or brown in here. However, he really does defer to me on decorating issues. I'm leaning toward the Svelte Sage. We have Svelte Sage in our DR and I LOVE it. Grassland looks way too light even though it is a northern exposure room. I'm hoping to achieve an end result that is restful, warm, cozy, elegant, and simple.

I love love love your tray ceiling!!!

How about ashen green walls with a blue for the ceiling? The ashen green would look good with your sage chairs too. I think that color would fit all of your requirements - elegant, warm, cozy and it's a color that goes with blues, greens, browns, golds... I really like that color!!

Well I was going to suggest RH Cappucino since your bedding looks to be the same color as mine and I have a green chair in my room too. However, since your dh is against the browns/beiges....I vote for the Ashen Green suggestion.

P.S. You didn't like the Svelte Sage? I love that color. Was it too gray for you??

hoyamom - I never thought of blue for the ceiling. That's sounds interesting. I had thought about a gray/blue for the walls before we brought in the green chair. I really like the combination of blue and tan.

lindybarts - any suggestion from you is like a pearl of wisdom. I LOVE your house!

I think I may have to do a larger sample of Svelte Sage o the walls. I don't think it is too gray. Actually, in our DR it is a very nice green. However, we had a green bedroom in our old home and I fell out of love with it pretty quickly. It was more of a blue green, though (with a differnt comforter, etc.) I'm just afraid of painting a color that I'm not in love with. I don't want to be unhappy with my choice in two months. I already have painter's remorse in other areas of my home. And since we are hiring painters for this, I feel a little more pressure to pick the "right" color.

Any thoughts on Svelte Sage for the walls with a beige on the ceiling so the crown would show up more?

Cindy...Ashen Green is an Ellen Kennon color that Hoyamom just did. It's beautiful. Hoya's Ashen Green

Here's my bedroom that I know you've seen before but I really do love the color. It's neutral though and if hubby is looking for more Wow, this might not be it. At night, it has hints of green so it would go with your chair too.

I would do Cappuccino on the walls and Latte on the tray ceiling. (Restoration Hardware colors)

Wow, I love the Ashen Green in hoyamom's home and I love the Cappuccino in lindybarts home. Maybe I do need a beige with green undertones (or a green with beige undertones). hmmmmmm Greens are so hard for me to choose.

The first thing I thought of was RH Cappuccino also (I used it in my dining room). Your bedroom furniture is the same color as my living room furniture. I used Lowes Olive3 in there and it looks great with the dark furniture.

I also used it in my kitchen.
