This is a hard question to answer. Is it winter warmth for plant protection from the cold or summer warmth that you want answers about? In winter the east side of the house is warmer in the morning because it starts to heat up while the west side is still experiencing its lows. So the low will be less long there. BUT the East side starts to cool off quicker so will reach the freeze earlier. This is true on the hill scale but I am unsure if this is markedly true on a house scale. This is very evident on west and east sides off a hill on a clear winter evening, but how that translates to the smaller scale of a house, I don't think will be as drastic. because it warms up faster in the morning so the low. If you have some masonry Thermal masses, they will keep things warmer. A winter covered stone patio facing south with large cement pillars is an amazing godsend in winter. Trees mess with this formula. I suggest getting a thermometer and walking it around and discovering your micro zones at highs and lows at different times of the year.. Not all houses have a true North south orientation. I had South east, south west, North west, Northeast. Northwest exposures are problematic because they stay in shade for much of the year and then get BLAZING hot western summer sun. In summer, morning sun is cooler than western sun. All day southern sun is the longest exposure is the strongest. Start counting the hours of sunlight in your different areas. Trees mess with this. We all kill plants learning. I still do. . Some famous gardeners , I know say that they don't conceder a plant in appropriate till they kill it three times. Good luck.

A UPS is not a surge protector. UPS manufacturers quietly recommend no motorized appliances or protector strips on its output. Reason is made obvious by an output from a typical UPS. For example my 120 volt sine wave UPS outputs 200 volt square waves with a spike of up to 270 volts. From high school math, we know that is a sum of pure sine waves. Perfectly ideal power for electronics. And problematic for motorized appliances (and protectors). They did not lie. They simply played fast and loose with most consumers who do not always demand spec numbers. A 'so called' pure sine wave may only be one IF spec numbers do not say 'how pure'. Also read its specs for surge protection. Destructive surges can be hundreds of thousands of joules. How many joules does a UPS absorb? Typically hundreds. That near zero protection is sufficient to hype it as 100% protection to naive consumers. A UPS battery typically lasts about three years. These things are made as cheap as possible. UPS is only a temporary and not a recommended solution. Better is something that will delay power restoration. Unfortunately that power delay switch does not have a UL listing (some other electrical items also do not). Be careful with their wording. They say it complies with UL requirements. They do not say it was tested to confirm it complies with UL requirements; to have passed testing in a UL approved lab. Number of cubic feet means nothing. That switch must provide sufficient current to meet the current (or power) requirements listed on a label on that refrigerator or in it User Manual specifications. Any answer that does not include a number should be considered bogus; probably a lie.

IMO you currently have no way for a visitor to distinguish where the entry is. The large sea of paving created by the drive and turn around or parking spaces vs. the narrow entry tucked between the two building wings gives no clear message of where a visior should enter. The narrow path and archway to the courtyard says to me that it is private space, akin to walking into someone’s back yard uninvited. I would likely follow the drive around the house if I were looking for the front door, assuming that the house was spun 90 degrees with the entry facing right. Bryan Lovely’s second drawing solves this with problem with a clear pathway from the driveway to the entrance, an entry patio, and bright plantings that bring attention to the home entry. While his planting layout doesn’t do much for me, and I think the path should be wider, at least 6’ wide, this general scheme will improve the front entry and make the house far more welcoming than its current front facade. Tiny changes like window trim don’t solve the largest issue of how a first time visitor find the entrance to a home that presents a barricaded appearance.

See here. Your nose knows! Take a look in attics and basement corners. A knife blade into suspect wood framing will reveal the extent of wood rot. Peeling paint and wallpaper are giveaways too. Determine the source of the water. Heads up! Before the ceiling collapsed, just a few cracks and water drops. If there are watermarks on the ceiling, insulation will likely have to be replaced as well. And if it has been remedied. Make any offer subject to an inspection by a mould specialist.
