I wonder about comfort mats? There is a particular kind I have in mind but can't think of the name. I think Bed, Bath and Beyond carries a small amount and then they sell online.....Antifatigue type thing. I am not sure about whether they might damage the floor. My only solution for a spotless floor in my kitchen is no eating or cooking in there...lol. Who the heck can afford that. So, we have no five second rule at my house. I try and keep it clean but if anything hits it only the dog can eat it.

Tibbrix, my guess is that your client's D&A rug is one of the 100% cotton indoor rugs. They are indeed lightweight and not suitable for vacuuming. The D&A indoor/outdoor rugs are more hefty and can withstand vacuuming. Personally, I would never use a wool rug as a kitchen runner. My criteria for most fabrics, including those underfoot in high-traffic areas, are they must be easily cleaned and on a regular basis. Especially in the kitchen. Between feet and dog and spills and loading dishwasher by not-so-careful kids, and so on, my kitchen runner has to be washable in my washing machine, or it doesn't work. Unless I come across a cool vintage rug with patina TDF. Then perhaps I'll have wool in my kitchen.

I had a rug with a pattern cut down/bound several years ago, our local carpet ( not rug) store did this as a service and I think the charge was by the foot. Phew! Took forever to down load these photos This one is from Dash and Albert. Indoor/outdoor with a pile, so great for wet feet. Next is a border rug for dining area. It wipes clean with a damp cloth. It is Mohawk from overstock.com This runner is also impervious to stains. From rug.com. All are ridiculously affordable. Art is personal, but consider different piece on the wall, regardless of rugs you decide to get.
