Need help quickly!: Subway tile spacing- 1/16" or 1/8"?
Comments (3)Hi: my contractor just told me today that 1/8 is a standard distance. I like that distance, aesthetically. I've seen even wider, which is a whole other look. You might want to set up both options in the space, maybe post a photo to this site? Good luck!...See MoreHelp! Do I need spacers for American Olean 3x6 subway tiles?
Comments (9)We used the same tile for our kitchen backsplash. Please use the spacers (check to see what is recommended grout line and get spacers that size). if you want a uniform look, then choose a grout color that best blends with the tiles. Our contractor does alot of tile work and as good as he is, he said that even the slightest variance in a linear placement can affect the straight line. He always uses them, even with 30 years experience of doing tile work....See MoreIs it common for marble subway tiles to not lay flat?
Comments (8)I used 2x4" tiles in a carrara marble & mine laid fairly flat but not like a sheet of glass. With smaller sizes it is easier to work around surface changes without the corners sticking up. There are plenty of perfectly installed examples of natural stone. This was my first tiling attempt & I back buttered every thing because the backsplash space was so difficult for me. l could adjust the depth as I needed. I used 1/8" grout lines, but I had picked out the spacers when I had selected a larger tile. When I went with the smaller tile I kept the spacers the same because the tiles were in a mosaic format & at the 1/8 spacing. But I cut the mosaic apart and made my own pattern & I forgot to reconsider spacing options. 1/2 way through the 1st wall I had a slight panic, thinking I should have done 1/16! But I love how my 1/8 turned out. I also used contrasting grout....See MoreWhat size tile spacers for shower subway tile on walls?
Comments (5)The home depot associate (tile specialist) suggested 1/16 spacers but use a flexible mortar to allow expansion/contraction. (I may not have said that correctly.) I will get advice on specific thinset and grout from my contact at the tile shop (who was a tile contractor). Thanks everyone!...See Morepaintedluna
