Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Looking for advice on the sizes for mirrors and lights

We are in the process of building a house and are working on the master bath now. The dimensions of the vanity are shown below, along with a CAD drawing. ( The third photo is the inspiration for our bathroom)The bathroom designer is recommending mirrors filling the entire space between the upper cabinets, with either no sconces or sconces on the side of the uppers, as shown in the pictures below. I had envisioned sconces on either side of the mirrors on the back wall. I’m fine with a narrower mirror, providing the proportions look right. (Rarely wear makeup and don’t need a huge mirror to blow dry my hair.) If anyone has advice on appropriately sized mirrors and lights I would be most appreciative!

I like good lighting above the mirrors and no sconces . I use this light a lot for bathrooms is provides a ton of light I get it with 150 watt halogens or their LED replacement .. But I do not like towers sitting on the counter either I find then claustrophobic when they are also on either side of the sink and in the middle so only my opinion .

Hi Barbara,

Rather than focusing on the sconces, consider your hand towels. I know that's not what your dilemma is about, but it's what limits your choices because in general hand towels take up more width than a sconce. You need enough room to hang your hand towels, be it from a hook or ring or bar or whatever. Although there are exceptions, aesthetically, these are generally placed below the sconces. If your sconces go on the sides of the cabinetry, the cabinetry must be deep enough to provide room for the hand towel and its hook/ring/bar. So if you are thinking of a tower of slim shelves between the sinks, this might not be a good option.

Jugiegal, yes, our vanity size and layout is very similar to yours. I really like your choice of mirrors, I am an arch person and like anything that has an arch element. But, because the two mirrors would have been this size, my kids really wanted a large one. When the girls do their hair, or each other's hair, or their friends' hair (you get the picture, right? :)), they stand in the middle and use the counter for all their hair accessories, hair dryer, flat iron etc. So it is important to have the mirror in the middle as well. The mock-up mirror in the photo serves this purpose now. And for me, it is great because it keeps all the hair-related products out of their bedrooms. Lyban, there is tile between the sinks but the upper row of the glass border is not there.

The size of the 3 light is a good size. Yes, I think these look kind of heavy. Maybe if your frame on the mirror is a really thick frame, that might help. Other than that I would go for something with a thinner bar. See some options below. If you get a chance, please post a picture of your mirror. You do not need two lights over the tub . One centered will be fine. Not sure you want to light up the toilet either. I would want the exhaust fan central in the room, its not a big room so no need to push it over the toilet. so I would go with number 1 layout but only one light in shower. do a 6'' in shower if that makes you feel better. Idk why everyone went 4" .

Thank you Alicia, I had planned on either a ring or small hook on both walls for a hand towel. i Could put a hook on the cabinets, but don’t think I would do that..
