Advice on Furniture Layout

I would appreciate advice on furniture layout for the living room for our new place. The room is roughly 20'x20'. The entrance to the room from the front hallway is a pair of French doors in the corner. There are also french doors leading to outsize on one wall and stairs to the lower level family room on the other outside wall.

We are hoping to use this as a formal sitting space and dining room as the home does not have a separate dining area or eat in kitchen. We have the following furniture for the room.

84" Leather sofa

64" leather loveseat

34" round table with 4 chairs and three 16" leaves. We usually have two leaves in for a 64" long table.

We are hoping to acquire a new buffet and a bookshelf, storage, and display cabinet that will take up one of the long walls.

As usual I agree with groveraxle. Making a natural walkway behind the sofa allowing traffic to flow outside the main living area is always preferable to placing furniture against the wall. Longest tv console possible gives more storage for toys too. The tv between the windows eliminates some of the glare while giving someone sitting on the couch a view outside along with viewing the tv. If you were to use a sectional or more seating I would form the L so that the other side faces the front of the house. That will shield to a point the play area from the front door hiding kids clutter as the first thing you see When you walk in the door.

Katie, not sure of dimensions or window placement, but here is a plan for you to consider. Creating two areas will be more inviting and useful. Anchor the main seating area with a large (8x10) rug and hang some giant art. It would be helpful to post pics of furniture you have and sizes. The nice thing about furniture is that you can move it around.

I know you are asking about your furniture, so I don't know how helpful this comment is. You have tons of open, unassigned floor space, which can be fitting for a true MCM. The furniture should be broad, horizontal, open feeling, and scaled to fit the space proportions. The picture in my head of wingbacks seem to counter that aesthetic. The other thing, and I am trying really hard to bite my tongue, but the total and complete utter domination of the beams disecting spaces, along with the recessed cans which highlights only the beams and not define any spaces below, might dictate that you try another layout of furniture than your proposed. Yes, it is probably similar to what existed before you removed walls. I would also create a wider fireplace (faux front with a wood storage on the side) to look like a FP massing centered under it's associated beam.
