My kitchen is only 11x12 so my island is not nearly as big as yours but here it is anyway. My sink is in my island.. No gunk with my undermount sink. The fabricator did a flush mount so there is no sink edge to catch gunk.

Our island is small, with a microwave drawer and two trash pull outs on the side facing the sink. It's all still new, but we love it. Our sink is an undermount with a positive reveal. No gunk so far, spraying it all down and wiping has been easy, so far.

Glad you found someone who can do what you want! Our bathroom sink is an under mount with a negative reveal. I just clean under there every tine I clean the sink and have not had any gunk build up. You could get a positive reveal with an under mount and then you would see where the two join if you think that would help keep it clean.

I prefer undermount - and keep a toothbrush handy for the gunk. (I see more gunk on my silgranit than on my SS sink). Glad you're happy - you can lay out things using google sketchup pretty quickly, too. Our island is almost square - 7x6.

Here's a shot showing a leg. There's a simple skirt joining the two front legs.

From during construction - the wood was a lot redder then. You don't really ever see this, due to the bar stools.

Remember to plan for outlets as well.

Pattiesue, I just looked at the pictures again. I had missed the postive reveal on your sink. I love this!! What instructions did you give to granite person. Did they need your sink to make it work?

No island for me, kitchen isn't big enough but we do have a negative reveal undermount sink....SOOOO much better and cleaner than the old overmounted. I used to take a toothpick to the seam between the sink and counter to get the "gunk" out. We have had the sink installed and working for well over a year and have yet to encounter gunk...I wipe down the tiny little lip between the sink and edge of sink reveal a couple times a week with my dish cloth...not a problem at all.

I would also recommend an undermount sink. I've had several over the past 20 years (have three currently in kitchen/laundry and five in bathrooms) and there is no gunk build-up. Routine weekly cleaning will help avoid gunk.

Our island is just over 4' x 9'. There is a 47" counter-to-counter, perfect for more than one in the kitchen.

I absolutely cannot get over all of these gorgeous kitchens. I think these are the prettiest " real people kitchens" I have ever seen!

Nightowl, the appliance run to the corner angle is 122". The angle is 51" and the sink run is 135". Hope that helps!

I have only undermount sinks and don't have a gunk problem. I've had top mount and had issues keeping the seam clean
