Stella & Clara
We love doing kid spaces (especially when they are the bedrooms of two adorable girls who live in a fabulous Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home on the water). For Stella's room, we used a little mid-century to create a lot of impact. The starting point for the design was a Marimekko wall mural which we installed horizontally and painted the top wall turquoise and bottom wall red. Then we added a gorgeous turquoise capiz shell ceiling fixture, new furniture (not to mention a sequined-back black desk chair) and a black and white striped upholstered bed. Two red swivel chairs in front of the window (as requested by Stella) which has a custom black-out roman shade and a functional old fashioned telephone complete the space to make any tween very happy.
Clara (Stella's sister) is seven and, of course, loves pink. I have been wanting to use this iconic Marimekko poppy print for years and this was the perfect project to do so. The rest speaks for itself - new furniture, upholstered raspberry coloured bed, colourful area rug, custom walnut doors to hide the built-in closets (in both bedrooms), a black-out zebra print roman shade and a red bean bag in the corner for her favourite friend. When we were finished, we all wanted to be seven again and have such a room!
Finally is the bathroom that two sisters (and house guests) will share on the second floor.. A beautiful walnut vanity and mirrored medicine cabinet were custom made for the space. The palette of the mosaic tiles were chosen to recall the natural stone throughout the home (see last two photos). White and chrome faucets and shower fixtures add a bit of glam not to mention the Missoni towels (imported from Italy). Another painting from same collection as the one over toilet will be going to the left of the window.
