I don't think $6000 by definition is necessarily way too much for a rug, but on the other hand, you should be able to find something like this for less, possibly in a mostly wool broadloom bound to size. I don't know what your budget is but you definitely should be able to find something similar in a broadloom for half that. This will really depend upon whether you buy rugs and expect to keep them a very long time, or whether you like to replace things periodically. I would not invest thousands in a rug only to replace it in 7 years. But I do have persian and other handmade rugs that vary in age from 50 - 100 years, and I may invest in a rug that was in that category. Neither is incorrect. I do have a friend who was ... critical... about the quality of rug I just put in one of my bedrooms, because she carpeted her entire upstairs, twice, and took that out and put in laminate all for the same amount of money. But on the otherhand she's changed her flooring three times in ten years and I am not planning on changing my flooring at all once it's done.

$1000 for that size does not buy you much in the way of quality, so If you find something you like for less, I don't think it will make much difference. If you go with a synthetic instead of wool (some look quite nice), that will save some $, too. The very best thing ? A very good nylon, one you select at a higher end broadloom carpet store, and have bound by hand to the exact inch you want. It will be indestructible. It will be highly cleanable. Example the nylon, hard to tell the difference, of the VERY difficult to maintain viscose fiber laden, ready to go rugs you will find. The shading and luster is absolutely wonderful.
