I have maple cabinets. Need to paint the walls. Which Benjamin Moore colors work well with Maple cabinets? I tend to like grays, blues, and beiges. I do not like greens, oranges, browns, reds or yellows.

Hmmmm. I think m3459 is on the right track. I'm not sure you're going to end up anywhere you want to be with a blue grey wall colour. Stonington Gray is actually and blue/green grey and a lovely colour at that, and while it's true that it is the compliment of the orange-y wood tone you have, it doesn't seem to be occurring anywhere else in your fixed assets. Look at your granite (it looks like Giallo Ornamental or something similar in your photo) and pull one of the lightest colours out of it (try the Off White collection from Benjamin Moore and look at OC-8 Elephant Tusk, OC-9 Ballet White or OC-11 Clay Beige). Then make sure this colour works with your tile floor which seems to have the same undertone as your granite. (If you inherited this combo, thank your lucky stars that these are working together as well as they are. It is sadly very rarely the case.) The winner should be the one that makes your floor look best because the colour will be light enough to suggest itself as the light colour in your granite. This lighter wall colour will also take the focus off the very white ceiling by significantly lowering the contrast. If you're painting the ceiling as well, DO NOT let anyone talk you into untinted white. Two tints lighter than you walls is all it needs to be in order to appear to go up and stop drawing un-wanted attention to itself.

If you take this approach, everyone will also think you have new window coverings which will suddenly look like well-shaped brows on a lovely face and the contrast with all the dark brown furniture will be balanced around the room better. The colours may not be your dream colours (they were chosen in the Tuscan brown era), but the room will look fresh again.

Go for a blue gray like BM stonington gray or gray owl. The blue undertone will compliment the orange undertone of the maple cabinet.

Gosh, I hope others with the color eye respond to your email with suggestions. All I can say is I'm not crazy about Masada - and it's not necessarily that it is too dark (because I'm painting my kitchen BM Van Courtland Blue which is not a light color). Perhaps part of my problem is that the color looks like it would blend right in with your floor almost too much. It's really hard to tell with that size sample, though. I was told to paint a much larger swath of each color I am interested in so you can really see it. I would be interested to see a bit more on the wall, as well as a bit near the floor in order to give you a better opinion. And of course, it is just MY opinion. My KD, mother, sister and DH love the Van Courtland Blue (as do I), but my GC, my trainer and one other person think it might be slightly too dark. Different strokes for different folks. My grandmother LOVED the color mustard, but I'm not as keen on it. Therefore I would be interested to hear what others with more color expertise have to say, and of course I would ultimately go with your gut. What makes you happy when you walk in. Good luck. I personally think color is HARD.

So pretty. Whites will work, greens will work, gray-greens will work...stronger blues would work if you were so inclined. (I know, kills appetite a bit) If you still have the preference for a bit muted colors(like in your valance), here's the nice round up of subtle yet rich greens for you. Maybe you'll see something you like. I didn't use any of them, I did use couple of greens I loved but they are Dunn Edwards..I don't know whether there is Dunn Edwards where you are. I just painted my walls in White Dove by BM. I have a subway tile backsplash in the kitchen with black grout. I'd like to paint my cabinets white and the island Navel (dark blue), but what color white should I paint my cabinets? The subway tile is a bright white and the WD if a very soft white/gray. Worried they will all clash or have too many shades of white going on. Help! :)

My natural maple cabinets and Fantastico granite led me to paint my kitchen using Ralph Lauren Linen. It's a great beige.

This is the only pic I have of my own kitchen (we are on vacation now). It is similar in detail to your kitchen. I painted the entire house in Stonington Gray (except for a few rooms in which I did Revere Pewter and Gray Owl). It's an amazing how different the grays can be.

You can see the color of our cabinets in the upper right corner…
The Stonington does have a blue undertone while the Gray Owl has less blue and is just slightly more of a true gray. Hope that helps!

I have the same dilemma as you, Mary. I am putting in wheatfield shaker style maple cabinets and I have a gray/black beige quartz counter. My floors are dark engineered vinyl planking, mostly gray with some of the cabinet color in them. I am having the hardest time coming up with a color for the walls. I've gotten samples of various shades of gray, blue, greige, and even cinnamon and red maple. Nothing has really been "the one!" I am frustrated. I see you posted on here almost 2 months ago. Have you decided? What did you come up with?

Patricia, I'm not sure what color wheatfield is, but it sounds like a very light, almost natural stain color--like the color of ripe wheat I imagine, LOL? I feel your pain in trying to decide on paint colors to go with them! Although most of the designer kitchens you will see here on HOUZZ have painted cabinets, I have been starting to notice more stained-wood ones these days, usually in the very light wood tones. I have older, light colored, wood-stained maple cabinets and I did a search through HOUZZ's kitchen photos using the key words "maple cabinets". I searched through quite a lot of pages to see some examples of professionally designed kitchens with maple cabinets to help me decide what colors I thought looked best and were among the latest "on-trend" color combinations. I found that it was very apparent that most of the newer kitchens with light, stained- wood cabinets used very, very light colors on the walls. I found that I really liked that combination--the high contrast between the walls and cabinets kept the stained-wood cabinet kitchens looking fresh, and not dated. The Fixer Upper show seems to use that combination a lot--light colored, stained,wood elements paired with light paint colors. After many, many large samples of paint (and many large paper ones ordered from Benjamin Moore, too!) I decided to go with Neutral Ground by Sherwin Williams with my honey-spice maple kitchen cabinets. In my kitchen it takes on a very pale, warm gray/ neutral look that looks lovely with my cabinets. (Most actual grays looked jarringly " too cool" next to my warm-toned cabinets and did not go at all! Tans and beiges looked too pinkish next to them--and just plain dated!) We have 20yr old honey-colored maple cabinets and beige/gray counters, lighter oatmeal-colored tile flooring (grouting on floor tile is expresso color). Door/window trim is beige. Want to update and get away from the 90's beiges/golds. Do not want to paint the cabinets or redo flooring at this time.

Love Grays!!! Want to paint kitchen/great room. Lots of maple trim everywhere in living room/kitchen, and we have dark gray/black furniture. Black appliances in kitchen. Maple flooring as well in great room, connecting with kitchen tile area. Suggestions for walls? Need to lighten it up and modernize! I have no idea where to start.
