was this on his "all hits" tour? i heard about that and was so hoping he'd come to st. louis but no such luck. hope you enjoyed the concert despite the rudeness of others!

That is indeed very rude, and those women seemingly forgot that they weren't in their own living room. I found I had to speak up recently when a couple was disrupting my enjoyment at a concert. As soon as the main performer came on, they put their heads together to have a lengthy conversation and completely obscured my view. I told them that I was having difficulty seeing the stage and fortunately they got up and left. On the positive side, I was at a Les Miz performance where a tall man was in the seat in front of me accompanied by a short woman. I knew I would have trouble seeing the stage, and he very kindly switched seats with the woman when I asked, giving me a great sightline.

It’s annoying on their part, but my bad knees would have appreciated the stretch a few times an hour!

Things like that drive me nuts and would ruin my enjoyment of the concert. Where the heck were they going?

I went to a Bonnie Raitt concert once where a woman sitting near us was behaving outrageously. Security finally came and removed her. She was actually threatening people around her. We all clapped as they marched her out.

That was a bit much of them.

Equally distracting as a gaggle of kids doing the same at an outdoor concert, jumping up, running the length of seating, coming back through, getting water bottles and running off again, running back to return water bottles to blanket on the ground - ugh. This actually happened recently at a concert I attended. They did this throughout the entire performance. I don't know where the adults were seated. Sometimes they ran right past the front of the stage! Like I say, distracting. Altho I know what it's like to be a kid.

Yes, that was rude and yes I'd be annoyed.

I've been fortunate I haven't had many bad experiences but one in particular stands out. Went to Transiberian Orchestra show around Christmas-time. If you've seen TSO, you know it's a loud, elaborate spectacle of a show where flashing lights and lasers abound. Seated in front of us were a couple and their kid. Kid got over-stimulated and was jumping up and down on his seat and yelling, totally ruining it for us and everyone around us. I tapped on the dad's shoulder and asked him to please calm his kid down. What does he do? The coward tells his wife and she turned around and RIPPED ME A NEW ONE! My kid is austic, how dare you say something....blah blah blah. And then she called security ON ME!!

I got the last laugh --- security asked me to leave the area and then escorted me over to primo $$$ seats that were empty, way way better than the cheap seats I had. BWHAAHAHA!!!

Yes, it's rude. I was at a Kabuki performance last month and - with just 10 minutes left in the act - my seat-neighbour in the middle of the row wanted to leave. I knew she was bored by the performance (checking watch, making notes, texting), but if you've lasted through the first 75 minutes, surely you can wait the last 10 to avoid trying to squeeze by in the very tight seating.

BTW: I've seen Mellencamp. Good show if you can sit through about 20 minutes of old movie clips. We paid to see Mellencamp not movies and got so irritated that it went on so long we were getting ready to walk out and ask for a refund when he finally took the stage. This was 2 or 3 years ago, so IDK if he's still doing that.

Ninapearl - Mellencamp is playing in Kansas City tomorrow (July 13) if you want to make the short jaunt across the state. Assuming tickets are still available. He is playing at the new Morton Amphitheater that just opened a few weeks ago. Great Danes are welcome but you'll have to buy each of them 2 seats. LOL

It's unfortunate when people lack the common sense or consideration to be mindful of others. It's the "I'm the center of the universe and others don't matter" attitude.

In audience settings, a frequent distraction I encounter is people who insist on talking loudly throughout the event, diminishing everyone else's enjoyment. Rather than suffer in silence, I'll politely get their attention, explain that their conversation is disturbing others, and ask them to lower their voices or continue elsewhere.

I've also encountered people who repeatedly enter and exit their row. If another aisle is available, I'll ask them to use it next time. If not, I'll ask if they would please wait until intermission before leaving again.

People with red hats are known for their common sense, so probly not Elmer.

People with common sense and consideration for others take off their hats when sitting in an audience.

That's not true. Red is a very common color for sports teams. Many schools, and also their teams, have red as a color. Alums and supporters have red hats. Ditto for pro teams in various sports.

Just off the top of my head, local examples - SF 49ers, Stanford, USC.

Supporting a particular school or its team doesn't necessary imply the wearer has common sense. But the wearing of red hats for certain other allegiances can imply they don't.

Regarding clapping between movements. I am in two.minds. it's annoying. But I try to tell myself it means that there are people in the audience unaccustomed to symphony concerts and it's good to see they're there, trying something new. Good for them.

And...those of us who would rock red hats- are a whole heck of a lot better looking (I'm sorry, as a party...we just are) and much cooler than the people who melt down at the sight of one. You can keep the delusional, emotionally unstable, out-of-touch crowd you’re known for.

Yes, porkchop! I get bogged down in all the innuendoes and read-between-the-lines insults . It’s tiring. Everybody knows there isn’t supposed to be any Rs fighting the Ds (and vice versa) here.

Lol that this has degenerated into hat talk! My pet peeve is people engaging in extended conversation during a concert or performance. So disrespectful. If you’re talking, you’re not listening. As Bob Weir famously once said from the stage, “STFU!”

It's especially distracting at performances with less volume and more vocal subtlies to pay attention to than is typical for a concert of any kind. Something like a play.

I was at a Neil Young concert once and people were clapping along with a song. He stopped and said, “I realize you paid good money to be here so you can do what you want, but the music would sound a lot better if you didn’t clap.”

The worst is when you go to a concert and the people behind you sing along. I went to a Paul Simon concert and some in the row behind us startied singing along. My entire row turned around as one, unplanned, and told him to shut up.

@LoneJack that would be an overnight trip for me so not enough time to plan on short notice plus i doubt people would appreciate the danes' attempts at howling harmony. 🤣

I keep thinking about Rho Dodendron’s description of the rude behavior she was subjected to at the concert she attended. What I’m wondering is what all the attendees in the 2-3 rows behind her thought about it. They didn’t have to stand up but starting from the row immediately behind Rho they had an obscured view and a distraction every time those numbskulls exited and returned. I would give them some grace if there was an issue that required them to leave so often but if that were the case surely they would’ve selected aisle seats…..or, stayed home.

I just keep imagining what the heck was so important that all 4 or 5 of them had to go. WTF? Do they have to hold hands together to find the potty? Are they having a coven meeting? I simply cannot imagine what was going on.

As for me, I'm mildly claustrophobic, so I have to sit on the aisle or in a restaurant both, at the end. I just seem to choke up if I can't get out.

We went to a Roxette concert and the woman in front of us (who had clearly been drinking) would not shut up. Finally we told her we had paid to hear Roxette and not her, so would she kindly put a sock in it. She did, but with ill grace. It was kind of divine retribution when I saw her as she staggered up the footpath after the concert and a passing vehicle sprayed the contents of a puddle all over her.

It’s not just concerts. We were at the cinema and as the film was starting, a group behind us continued their loud conversation. I turned around and said,”If you want to chat that’s fine, but could you please find a more suitable place to do so? The rest of us paid to hear the film.”

Another time we shared a cinema with a woman several rows back (so too far to speak to) who left noisily and returned several times, eating a constant stream of rustly food- potato chips, cellophane wrapped candies etc. It was incredibly distracting. As the film was the first of what promised to be a series (based on books), I was soooo tempted to approach her afterwards and ask for her phone number, so that when the next film came out I could call her and ensure that we wouldn't be at the same session as she was.
