LOL! But FOAS, mousse is this year's discussion! There was a mid-20th C. dish that was (it pains me to say) popular (I only know about it because it was something my father's parents fed to my mother when she first met them, and she still talks about it). It was canned beets prepared with butter. I'm sure there must be some kind of delicious, fresh food, fine dining version of buttered beets, but there's no better way to conserve and highlight the can flavor than heating it in butter! I've had canned julienned beets served to me in salads, and they're fine. I'm not a total can snob, and I use canned tomato products and corn. But there are some vile things that come out of cans too. There's a good reason why a lot of Americans are scared of beets. :)

I wonder how many Dads are on the team? I know of one, a skier, can't remember his name. Training takes such a big part of one's life, I'm sure! edited to add, I just learned another skier is a dad, David Wyse the gold medalist it ski half pipe has two kids! And the bronze mentalist is only 16. Wow. Now I'm wondering whether, as those ski/board trick events mature, will the clothing become more sleek like skaters and downhillers? In X-country, is it the foot that has to cross the line first, or the ski? I think it's the foot, judging from another close finish. Tonight is US vs Canada in women's hockey. DH is Canadian, I'm American. Yikes! But, the game is on at 10:00 here. DH is taking a nap lol. I'll probably fall asleep by the 2nd period.

Sitting on our house without renting we make about 5% a year right now. Appreciation is closer to 7% but I’m subtracting taxes and maintenance. I expect that to slow to zero for the next 2-3 years then pick back up again. With renting, minus maintenance and taxes (income and property) I’d say conservatively we’d make an additional 2%-3%. so the opportunity cost is certainly there compared to dumping it all in the market. which I know less than zero about. But which might return more. The new house will not appreciare much if at all for a few reasons: age means maintenance cycle is beginning, it’s dated already, and there’s plenty of new housing going up in an adjacent suburb which depresses prices nearby of “almost new” housing. otoh the view is unsurpassed in the nearby suburbs and stuff is still selling briskly in this fairly premium neighbourhood. So I have a bit of nervousness about jumping out of the city, tying myself to an asset that won’t appreciate like my city house, and then being priced out if I hate suburb life and want to get back into the city. the house is still available because they haven’t put it back on the market this year, but they’ve been trying to sell it for a few year now.
