Wow, just wow!!! Milwaukee is awesome! I loved the video. Thanks for sharing that. I checked but couldn't find anything but the usual parades and local ceremonies in Ohio. Nothing on the scale of Milwaukee's!! You should be, and it sounds like you are, very proud. I wish Ohio was like that.

Arlington is the most beautiful and yet heart breaking cemetery I have ever

seen. There always seems to be a "murmering" in the background. I know I

imagined it...but, still it is there.

Even more heartbreaking and emotional is the continuing expansion of Arlington National Cemetery.We live close by and it seems everytime we drive by, there are more headstones and more ground being dug out for those future fallen.

They plant flags at the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery here as well - it's usually volunteer Boy Scout troops doing it, and there's a big public ceremony as well. I'll forever remember our friend, whose husband is interred there, looking out across the sea of flags and saying such a waste of young lives...

My mother's ashes are now interred with my dad's there.

To be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, a veteran must meet strict eligibility criteria, with in-ground burial requiring higher service distinctions than above-ground inurnment.

Eligibility Criteria

In-ground burial at Arlington is limited to veterans who meet one of the following conditions:

• Active duty deaths: Service members who die while on active duty (not training), with a certificate of honorable service from the General Courts-Martial Convening Authority legalclarity.org.
• Retired veterans: Those receiving military retired pay, including certain Reserve retirees with active duty service and official retired status legalclarity.org.
• Pre-1949 disability discharges: Veterans honorably discharged before October 1, 1949, for permanent physical disability, who would have qualified for retirement under 10 U.S.C. 1201 legalclarity.org.
• Recipients of major decorations: Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Air Force Cross, Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, or Purple Heart legalclarity.org.
• High government positions: Veterans who served on active duty and held offices such as President, Vice President, elected Congress member, Supreme Court Justice, or certain Level I/II Executive Schedule positions legalclarity.org.
  Above-ground inurnment in the columbarium is available to most veterans with at least one day of active duty (other than training) and an honorable discharge

Yes, and lots of them, especially the WWll vets will be/are in some of those new sections. My DH has friends who have recently been interred there, a couple fought in WWll. It is hard to see them go and he attends each funeral. Arlington is indeed a sacred place.

So today, we noticed the cemetery here is building a big new crypt section just beyond the section where my dad & mom are.

There were definitely many more flags this year 😞
