Looking for suggestions for a large, compelling read

I love a large book that I can get drawn into and inhabit the world it presents. The last book I found really absorbing was Time of the Child by Niall Williams and as I was reading, I thought how fortunate I was to be reading it. Other mostly large books that are favorites are War and Peace, most of Charles Dickens including David Copperfield and Bleak House, Kristen Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset, Buddenbrooks and The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann, Independent People by Halldor Laxness, A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth, The Siege of Krishnapur and Troubles by J.G. Farrell. I enjoy books set in India and began The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese but had no interest in continuing. Have you had a book that you found absorbing, large or otherwise?
