What do you think about this guy? (Yet another Echinacea pic)
Comments (6)I wouldn't assume that just because you have one doubleheaded bloom that it is due to a virus. At the beginning of the summer, several different types of plants of mine had one or two of those, but all the rest of the blooms since then, have been perfectly normal. I did pinch those off though, so they didn't produce any seeds. I remember a couple like that early last year too, so I don't think that it's necessarily a sign of disease. Comments (4)Place a big pot of some hummingbird attracting annual on your back porch and hang the feeder close by. They'll discover it in no time. And I find some feeders are more appealing than others - forget the fancy blown glass ones and go with the cheapo plastic discs. These tend not to spoil as fast in hot weather and give the hummers a perch for feeding......all the better to watch them!! And the species you are describing are most likely Anna's. They are year round residents in the Puget Sound area and are not the most colorful hummers on the planet, especially when juveniles. Adult males often have iridescence and a red throat. And I'd not worry about them being fearful of the house. IME, hummers are not afraid of much - not me , not the house, not my cat (who knows he's not anywhere as fast and just looks) or the dog. In fact, I am a little bit afraid of them coming into the house as a hanging basket they frequent is right by the back door that is almost always open in hot weather. And they hover and stare at me through the windows....See Moreyet another question - am i supposed to see my vent?
Comments (56)Oh I really like the new trim on the vent. For me, not only does it hide the vent but it also finishes things off nicely and looks good with the cabinets....See MoreI have yet to see another one of these. ID help please.
Comments (16)Nothing wrong with your preference...And it is a good idea to keep new ones in quarantine to make sue they have no diseases & pests. Also agree with flowers making demands on plants, to some extent. I keep all succulents outdoors as soon as possible, and almost all in full sun. There are many (probably 300 pots), almost all side-by-side on benches, shelves. Maybe beneficials help, but don't remember flower stalks attracting bugs :)...See More- 14 days agolast modified: 14 days ago
