Comments (9)I ran in dozens of them & never got hurt but my 1st husband had a huge bruise on his leg when someone hit his drivers door & crushed it into the steering wheel (a no no). They have rules such as wearing a helment & seat belt, windshield & all glass out, gas tank removed & only a couple gallons in a can, battery behind the front seat, no front to front or drivers door hits, chain the hood & trunk, etc. You really don't go all that fast because they water the track, maybe 40 mph if you're lucky. I used to think when you were in a car, you were surrounded by 2 tons of solid metal. Maybe that was true in the 50s & 60s but modern cars fold like aluminum foil (why do you think they call them crumple zones now instead of fenders & bumpers?). LOL When my kids 1st got licenses, I wanted their first car to be a Chrysler Imperial (they would have died of embarassment driving that big old boat). I have a 1960 & it's the closest thing to a tank you can get (& all that luxury besides). They outlawed them in the derbies around here because they always won & you could run the same car in 2 or 3 derbies & still win! Linda...See MoreBroken Carnosa
Comments (5)Thanks for the replies, you guys have made me feel a little better about it now, it is a shame as I brought it up from a little cutting which I got last summer, it has grown so well and was starting look really nice creeping up the window. All that effort the plant had put into growing over the last 7 months and I go and undo it in a split second with a pair of scissors. I guess the upside is I got 2 more little cuttings to play with now. I dipped them in rooting hormone gel and put them into some seedling compost, they are now happily sitting in my propagator by my kitchen window. How much can I expect my Hoya Carnosa to grow in a year, I am in the UK and have them in an east facing window which gets full sun in the morning, I have around 60 houseplants in mt living room so humidity high always in the 50% to 60% range. I water them when the compost is almost dry, I haven't fed them yet but plan to start doing so very soon. The earphones and strimmer chord made me lol, I guess we all have little misshaps from time to time. Thanks...See MoreGardengrl and Lackboys3 are Jammin'!!! (pics)
Comments (44)Donna, there's no true reliable way to test the acidity of a canning recipe unless you send it out to a county cooperative extension agent (who has the equipment) to test. There's no luck for that in Florida though, as it seems no one cans down here anymore. Your best and safest bet is to always follow a reliable recipe from a reliable source. If you substitute one item for another, just be sure it is the same TOTAL amount (i.e., If you don't like onions in a recipe, substitute 2 cups of onion for 1 cup of bell pepper and 1 cup of onion. It still equals 2 cups.). If you want to take something out and don't want to substitute, that is fine too. The key is to not go over the amount asked for in a recipe. And as far as what are "reliable" sources for recipes, well, that's another arguement we have on the Harvest Forum pretty regularly. If you stick with the Ball Blue Book until you get the hang of things, you'll be fine. Come on over!...See MoreWe jammin'
Comments (3)Mmmmm! Looks so good. I hear you on the "anchorless" feeling. I'm about 4 weeks in with at least that many more to go and missing, missing my dear, old, tiny, junky kitchen....See More- 25 days agolast modified: 25 days ago
