After he dropped out of engineering school he became a professional terrorist I believe.

The allege killer had taken a few, only physics, classes at Brown. He would not likely have known any of the students he fired upon.

Neves-Valente was a Portuguese national. The MIT professor was also from Portugal and the two had studied plasma physics in Portugal, but had different paths after that.

Perhaps it was something along the lines of personal animosity, middle age disappointment, anger that his life had not been ? particularly fruitful. Perhaps resentment and rage and nothing more complicated than that.

Law enforcement did a famtastic job. Kudos to the Brown graduate who observed and encountered then challenged Neves-Valente, posted his tip to Reddit-Providence, then met with the police, giving the very important, verifiable details that broke the case.

I thought the guy, John, whom the police were looking for as a witness, was a janitor and sometimes a homeless man. When police posted his picture, he immediately came forward and closed the case. He should get the reward. The psycho had no reason to kill those Brown kids since he hadn't been there in 25 years, but something was up with the MIT professor as they both attended the same university in Portugal at the same time.
