I'm baby sitting a phal!!! Me of all people!
Comments (9)I don't know if this counts, but the outcome could be similar to Kev's experience although less severe...I was at my friend's house the other day; a house he shares with 2 other guys of which one is the official owner and landlord. Anyway, I noticed a phal on their windowsill that belonged to one of the guys, with 2 spikes that had been cut at various upper nodes over the years ...those spikes looked OLD with a gazillion branches - I bet these guys (who aren't regular orchid growers) were under teh illusion that one shuold never cut the entire spike off a phal lest it never send a new one up. Anyway, upon closer examination, I noticed colonies of scale clustering all over one of the spikes. I pointed out this rather unpleasant infestation to my friend, who gasped and insisted that I do something about it....I told him I could cut the spike off and examine the rest of the plant for scale, but I didn't want to mess up Rob's plant (even though the infested spike only had like 1 dessicated bloom left and had exhausted all it's nodes anyway). My friend however, who I guess is apparently incredibly distasteful of insects, insisted I do what I had to do, so I chopped it off (after we took extensive photographs as evidence of the pests) The other 2 guys are away on vacation and we are now awaiting their return to see how they will react to the defilement of their precious plant. In retrospect, I could/should have probably waited, but I think I'll take the heat for cutting off an old spent spike, knowing in my heart that I saved a phal from impending doom....See MoreHI ALL..I'm Here!!
Comments (9)Thanks for the Warm Greetings everyone. You Guys are too funny... Don't Get Rid Of The Dishes!!! DH got a real laugh over that. I'm hanging on to one set which is going to DD. As far as the other set, they're too FL looking..(palm print). I didn't have too many dishes here..ate out mostly...hehehe. I feel for all of you who got socked with all that snow. I've been keeping up with the weather back home, thank goodness we left last week instead of this. I hear we got a walloping 15" too..and to think I've been complaining that it's 'chilly' here! So far, we've only had one really warm day. It's been mostly in the low 50's, and at night, in the 40's. PD...that would be funny you taking pictures of my things from Goodwill..I would have loved to see them 'live on' somewhere else. It's funny though, a couple of the women who worked there, kept raving over how nice some of the things were. I'll bet some items don't make it onto the shelves, for sale..lol Well...I still have to line someone up for the furniture. Tomorrow is another busy day. Stay warm...talk to you all again... jane...See MoreMy sweet Molly is missing and I'm heartsick...
Comments (76)Interesting thought, fly! I spent a good deal of time on the website linked below - but this woman isn't a pet psychic, I get the feeling she's more of a hand-holder. I wonder if she would give any better advice than what I've received from you all here? (I'm doubtful. Still, I'm somewhat intrigued!) In all honesty, I don't know if I could fully put my trust in a psychic. I guess my biggest issue would be that I'd worry I was simply handing over $ to someone who was taking advantage ... I don't know. I really know nothing about such things. I've just returned from yet another neighborhood scouting mission, and just about gave my stupid self frostbite in the process. DH is certain that Molly is not going to venture out any, if at all, in this cold. But I do see numerous cat prints in the snow, and somebody is coming back repeatedly to eat from the dish on the front porch. Could just be that big tom though ... ::sigh:: Here is a link that might be useful: Cat Profiler...See MoreI'm in tears - would you ask them to leave?
Comments (39)Caryscott made some very good points. I have had English speakers and non-English speakers work on my house and I have to say that there have been more problems from the English speaking ones in my case. Knowledge of a language, or lack of, is not the deciding factor in how things come out. Skill, attention to detail and communicating with someone until you understand are all very important. Even if someone can't speak directly to me, there is always someone who is bilingual around and gestures, pictures and drawings help. I have had my words ignored by American born contractors who were told in simple English, often with pix, and yet managed to screw something up anyway. I think it is more about gender tendencies than origin of birth (ducking from the men here, lol). My dh will often not hear something that we, or at least I, clearly discussed. Mistakes will be made. I am just sorry this one has been one that is not easily fixable. I am sure everyone feels awful. I don't think the gc needed to yell at anyone as that solved nothing. Talking clearly to the crew in the first place might have been a better strategy....See More- 10 months agolast modified: 10 months agoschoolhouse_gw thanked carolb_w_fl_coastal_9/10
