What is your favorite brand of W&D, and why?
Comments (9)I have the Wave Touch 70 series and while I don't know exactly what "Gentle Tumble" is, I can tell you that I absolutely love the Perfect Tumble feature on the dryer. It reverse tumbles the load and makes sure it's not tangled up when you remove it. I also like the extended tumble feature, which tumbles the load with cool air until you take it out. This feature is adjustable, so I can make it tumble for up to three hours after it's done drying. This allows me to take the laundry out and fold it when it's convenient for me. If I wait till the load is fully cooled and has tumbled a bit, it doesn't get wrinkled in the basket while I'm folding. With my old dryer, I'd dash to the dryer as soon as it went off, and it would take some fancy maneuvering to make sure that things didn't get wrinkled in the basket. A feature I like very much in the washer is the shrink guard. It tumbles the load after the last spin, fluffing it up a bit. I have fewer wrinkles in the laundry with the new pair. As to the number of cycles, I admit freely that it's a ridiculous number. However, you have options within those cycles, and that means that I can get this washer to do pretty much anything I want it to. I don't use all of the cycles, but I can tweak the cycles I do use to my satisfaction, and I like that very much. I've had this pair for almost a year and a half, and so far I'm very happy with them. The push to open door has not been annoying, as I'd feared it might be. :-) Cj Updated to insert a missing sentence, so the first paragraph makes sense now. Sorry! Comments (21)My gyne insists that adults do not need milk products at all. She says that calcium should be coming from green leafy vegetables -- kale, spinach, chard etc and of course, sardines. Almond milk, if you can tolerate it, is also high in calcium and a good source. I drink about 1-1/2 to 2 cups of milk a day in coffee. That's it. I've given up yogurt and most cheese. I do have some kefir in the morning occasionally (good for the gut) with fruit. I agree, it's really difficult with the coffee. I've never found a replacement for coffee and it wouldn't be half&half or cream because of the cholesterol and fat in those. Some can drink lactose-free milk as someone suggested. Fermented soy ie. tempeh is good (again for the gut). But anyone who starts to read labels conscientiously will realize that there are gigantic amounts of soy in many food products. It's used as a cheap additive. Bread, english muffins, many baked goods -- check it out. Our grandson had a soy allergy so I started reading labels before they visited each time. I was rocked by the number of unexpected foods that contain soy high up in the ingredient list. I haven't read about health benefits to adding any more. Most important though, is exercise. As vigorous as can be managed for 30 to 40 minutes a day, at least 3 times a week. Walking is good. But anything that makes you sweat is best....See MoreVisiting a Dairy-free Household
Comments (22)Kate, Apologies for not reading all the previous answers. I'm short of time. I've done a lot of dairy free baking and there's no problem. As others have said, you can substitute water for milk in most things. If the recipes calls for whole milk, you can add a dab more fat to compensate. Margarine will give you a different crumb than butter. Butter gives you the "melt in the mouth" feel of certain crisp cookies. For most cookies, cakes, etc., it works just fine. To get a good outcome, however, you must use "baking sticks", which have 100 Calories per serving (I think that's one ounce). I haven't done pie crust with this, though I have used 0 trans fat vegetable shortening. With shortening, I think there's an odd flavor--really flavorlessness--that requires a little something tasty in the pastry. Any margarine that's labeled "vegan" or has a kosher signiture mark and "parve" or "pareve" has no dairy in it. I use Earth Balance soy free (red label), but I'd assume that any of their baking sticks would be of similar quality. I also use their soft version for things like adding a dab to a vegetable, corn on the cob, potatoes, etc., for non-dairy or non-animal uses. I really dislike nut milks. Soy isn't so bad if absolutely needed, but I'd rather do without milk altogether for most purposes. Hemp milk seems the best of them to me, but is hardest to find or make. Almond singles "cheese" aren't too awful for adding a cheese-like texture to sandwiches, but they aren't much better than that. There are some truly lovely nut cheeses, but nutritionally, they're very different from cheese, and should be used advisedly. Good luck with it all!...See Morefavorite brand of deer & rabbit repellent?
Comments (5)Well, you could pay an outrageous sum for that stuff, or you can make your own for really cheap. Take a whole bulb of garlic, peel it, chop it up, then throw it in the blender with some water and try to liquify it. Add a dozen eggs, then liquify the whole mix. Top up your blender with some water, and strain the mixture through a fine mesh to a milk jug (outdoors is better). Keep the cap loose, so that air can escape. (if you keep it too tight, the jug may explode). I use it at the rate of about 2 oz per gallon in my sprayer. This works just as well as liquid fence. People can smell it for a day, the deer can smell it for about a month....See More- last month
