" It has since died out" Sorry to hijack this for horticultural enquiry, but @carolb_w_fl_coastal_9/10, was your problem just with this ginger specifically, and others do grow well for you? The reason I ask is that, obviously, gingers (Hedychium at least) are staples of southeastern landscaping, but a number of them come from cool summer highland subtropical climates in China/Nepal/etc. and though generally known to grow in southeastern heat and humidity...they are outliers for plants from such areas...many others from subtropical highland climates will not grow in the SE US. So I wonder about the history of that plant...did you buy it locally, or maybe get it from somewhere else in the south via mail order or whatnot? There's a ginger nursery in Hawaii but I'm pretty sure they are at elevation where at least the nights are cooler. Consider Hedychium wardii: I've seen it recommended by a guy in northern Scotland on Youtube as his best grower of the genus, so it obviously is fine with very chilly summers! It didn't seem happy for me when I ordered it from a PNW nursery, so, as one would expect, is not in commerce is the southeastern US. I'm just trying to get a sense of how many other cultivars or species might struggle with hot humid summers. Of course it's totally possible it died for some other reason(s) - I guess you can let me know! So as not to break the rules, here's a lavender-purple flower from my garden. Merry Grinchmas! Our library decorated one of the town's beach kiosks on the village green and DH created a Grinch for them - here he is at our front door. And here is the beach shack on the green - the librarian wanted him to add Max, too. I think it needs a new roof! The town had an early evening event a few weeks ago for families to stroll, listen to carols, Mrs. Claus was there handing out goodies. and later in the snow
