Comments (18)Bronze is a combination of copper and tin; brass is a combination of copper and zinc, which is why the colors look different - bronze is redder and brass is yellower when new. Tin is much more expensive than zinc (being rarer) and is much less prone to pitting - thus bronze tends to have a smoother finish than brass. I've had furniture parts that I designed cast in both bronze and brass, and the bronze was much easier to plate.
