ROTL! and Jinx! I gave just about the same description in the original thread just now. I've never eaten one.. I like your poem. Most English language "haiku" lack poetry, but the above has a certain depth and profundity under the silliness. :)

I used to eat them back in my teenage daze, it was like a hot tube-shaped sausage with a semi-jerky texture, extra greasy. Probably the same today with more unknown by-products.

Childhood camp snack bar food. I thought they were good. Particularly how the outside felt like eating plastic and the inside tasted like a low rent version of an already low rent Hickory Farms smoked sausage.

My kids loved them. I put some in their Easter baskets and the dog ate them. Dog had killer breath for days.

On a road trip today.

In a two day training class. Just spotted;

Ha! A few years ago, I was in the store to reup my Halloween Candy for my truck drivers. To my dismay, they did not have very much to choose from, as they had started clearing our the Halloween stuff in favor of Christmas stuff. So I started searching for things to put in the trick or treat bowl that truck drivers might like. I came across a box of mini slim jims. 120 of them. I have never had one but thought it was worth a shot. It was either slim jims or some kind of yogurt covered something. They were, of course, a huge hit and now I include them every year in the treat selection. I still havent tried one. They remind me of the Pupperoni sticks I give my dogs.

Slim Jims fall into the category of “road food”, for me. You’ve been driving for hours, feels like days. Through a desert, or California. In the distance, shimmering in the heat, you see a store. Unreasonably excited, you pull off and enter the store. After starting at a windshield for, feels like weeks, now So Much To See! All the weird industrially processed food-like things, unknown in nature, but here right before your road-worn eyes. Like with the Bearded Woman at the carnival, you can’t help but be fascinated. Fill your arms with fluorescent pop, glowing Nuclear! Hot! Cheetos, last week’s chicken wings, last decade’s Hostess Dingdongs, and the intriguing, somehow forbidden, Slim Jim. Back on the road, you gobble it all down, and then the stomachache comes. Which is okay, at least it keeps you awake. You have, feels like months, left to drive.

(Someone said, you have to experience the bad, to appreciate the good. They were talking about coffee, but I think it also applies to life, or food.)

I like ’em. Hubby accidentally brought home some tabasco flavored ones. I prefer plain, but tabasco will work in a pinch.

DD and I drove the pickup to get some chairs. We stopped at a truckstop - Taco Bell for DD, road food for me. I refuse to eat Taco Bell; they said “the meat is worms” in high school, so it must be true. Instead, I went to the Slim Jim shelf. Six linear feet of every kind of meat stick or dried jerky. I got the “Savage” Slim Jim, which was a foot long and hefty enough to thwack a naughty child’s knuckles or behind. Excited, I tore the plastic open and . . . it was awful. Texture like damp paper mache and a weirdly sour flavor. With 11 inches of Jim still remaining, we were done. What to do with the rest? DD won’t feed to to the ratties, they only get healthy food. I won’t feed it to the cats. I threw Slim in the door pocket. I don’t think Slim Jims can go bad, not in less than geological time anyway, and someday we’ll be snowbound in the truck and faced with the same horrible choice as the Donner Party. Slim Jim, or deceased Jim?

Well today I ate the shorty that I took from class. I was wishing it was full sized!

I like Slim Jim's, although they aren't "clean"eating-haven't had one in awhile.

I'm apathetic, but I used to buy them as an occcasional dog treat for Molly.

The Grandkids love 'em, though, so I bought minis for their trick or treat buckets.

Ate a bunch as a kid - IIRC they were like concentrated pepperoni. I can recall squeezing them like a tube of toothpaste to see the orange grease ooze out 😄
