they just pop out of the nuts .. rubra oaks
Comments (8)Yeah, My Chestnut oak is still having babies left and right popping up in the humungous mulch circle I made for it. They started sending taproots down last fall, and I pulled up those I saw, and those I missed sent up leaves this spring. Now the acorns I got from Oklahoma and Texas ( Quercus Fusiformis) are taking a long time to send up leaves. The taproots are still getting established I guess, they are ready to expose the leaves any day, but taking longer just to make me wait..... Just joking of course. But yeah, it's pretty simple with acorns, just make sure nothing disturbs it til it's ready to pop up....See MoreTop ten favorites for 2012 Pop Poll
Comments (12)I sent in my list today. I have to say that there are more write in votes that I would have had if I were allowed. 'Creature of the Night' I got rid of this one because it was a flopper in my garden but it looked great this year in a neighbour's garden with adequate support. 'Elegant Candy' I find the individual blooms kinda boring but it does make a statement in a clump. It had some of the best branching and budcount in the garden. 'Flying Trapeze' This one has big beautiful blooms that you can see a long way away. 'Shores of Time' It took forever for this one to look good and this year it made the jump to great. Colour was vibrant and almost all of the blooms opened well. 'Victorian Lace' Pretty blooms that opened well but performance was marginal. It is in because I felt the need to have 5 off the ballot. 'Elegance of Summer' I have a lot of excellent full form yellow daylilies but this is the best. Every northern gardener should have this one. 'Yellow Monkey' BEST SPIDER EVER!!! This one was my most photographed daylily this year and it was the bud king with 41 buds on a scape. 'Belle of Ashwood' I have a lot of excellent full form pink daylilies but this is the best. Every northern gardener should have this one. 'Thieving Magpie' This one draws me to it every day it blooms. It is a striking flower. 'Purple Kaboom' This one is loud and proud. It was certainly named well. To me it looks like a Munson daylily on steroids....See MoreBali Pops / Strip Quilt Question
Comments (6)There are a zillion patterns! Overwhelming for sure. I have used the Bali pops ( or strips) for 3 quilts recently. Look at Hoffman's website, Missouri Quilts (Summer in the Park is one I want to make) and Cozy quilts - see link below. You don't need the ruler if you have a 12.5" square for the tube quilts, but someday I may treat myself to one, as I keep buying the Bali Pops! Not only did I use regular fabric in addition to the Bali Pops, but I pulled out strips that weren't the perfect colors and cut my own, or I mixed some up. I especially like Tradewinds (which I was able to find free on the internet by looking really hard) I find the Strips are great for people like me who do not have much fabric stored. Comments (7)I agree with mairlyn_c. It seems as though she just got here, and now she's leading you two through the zoo! As I recall our DS's favorites at the zoo were...the pigeons. LOL...See More- last monthlast modified: last month
