What new varieties have you tried that you will grow again?
Comments (22)I grew a variety of the most talked about heirlooms this year. This was my first time trying anything other than Early Girls and similar varieties. Thanks to all on this forum for getting me out of my early-hybrid rut. I acknowledge that everyone's taste is different, but here's what I observed in my multitude of taste tests this year:. The Brandywine Sudduth had an amazingly smooth, creamy, dense meat. It has been described as almost a buttery texture. That's what I thought when I tasted it. I found the Stump of the World, the Brandywine OTV, and the Brandyboy to be very similar to the B-wine Sudduth in texture; different, but similar, in taste and all VERY GOOD. The OTV sometimes had less smooth texture, almost on the edge of being mealy, dependent on overnight cold temps. Marianna's Peace had a Sudduth-like texture, although a bit less dense and a bit lighter flavor. I liked Marianna's Peace BEST of ALL. The PrudenÂs Purple also had a Sudduth-like texture and the taste was good, but noticeably not as good as those mentioned above. It had the very best taste and texture of all the shorter season tomatoes in my greenhouse, though. My Prudens Purple vines were earlier than my Early Girls and much better tasting, meatier, and with a smoother denser texture. The Neves had a rich meaty texture, more traditional, and not so creamy smooth, but never mealy. It had a very rich, rich, rich tomatoey flavor. It is our favorite for flavor. PRODUCTION The numbers below show my best production numbers so far. My semi-insulated heated greenhouse is still producing: Goliath Hyb.........ÂÂ.12 @ 105oz Neves Azorean Red.......8 @ 104oz Brandywine OTV..........5 @ 88oz Marianna's Peace.....Â. 5 @ 84oz Prudens Purple........Â.. 7 @ 84oz Sophie's Choice.....Â...17 @ 84oz Mortgage Lifter#1....Â17 @ 80oz Mortgage Lifter#2...ÂÂ6 @ 77oz Early Girl Hyb......ÂÂ.16 @ 75oz Brandyboy Hyb........Â...7 @ 75oz Early Goliath Hyb.....Â..8 @ 65oz Stump of the World...Â.3 @ 55oz Brandywine Sudduth......2 @ 45oz Stupice...........ÂÂÂ...25 @ 42oz Next year I will grow MariannaÂs Peace and Neves for taste and production. I will grow some Prudens purple for EARLINESS, to tide us over til the others ripen. I donÂt think I will have space for any "early" hybrids in my garden next year. Comments (14)I haven't tried the packets but I've had the green tea in the bottle. It was a little too sweet for me but you can probably adjust that with the packet...just not use as much. Great idea for the condiment wallet. And I call it a "glove box" too.....is there another name? I guess it should be called the "map, insurance verification, salt packets, pen and owner's manual box". Comments (47)LOL laughable - I had not thought of that option! Huango (predictive text turned it into hangover-oops- no worries- my real name turns into Lasagna from predictive text. I will have to try them when I get back from Adam. raee- as a kid, I loved broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussel sprouts but hated peas and limas. Go figure Interesting morning- I was just reading this week about how bad ticks are this year. DH- will you come look at this sore on my back. I take a peak and think- why does he have stitches in his back when I realize the stitches are moving.., Fortunately, I had also read the latest on tick removal- which really has not changed in 50+ years. Skip the nail polish, liquid soap, kerosene, matches etc and find a pair of pointed tweezers. Get close to the head and pull gently until released. The tick "cements" itself in the skin so it does a steady pull. The tick was still flat, so even though fully imbedded, it was not engorged. We think he picked it up yesterday, so less than 24 hours. I tossed tick into toilet - but should have saved it for inspection. Put it in a small container with alcohol as "pickling juice". It can be tested for pathogens. I am 99% sure it was a dog and not a deer tick. Then to add insult to injury - I have been thinning out my pacasandra(sp). Deer ticks love this ground cover- so now I am very itchy- as the deer have been though th ground cover earlier this year. As a kid, we had tick checks - guess it is time to return to this activity....See MoreHave you tried any new products/food/clothes that you're happy with?
Comments (137)Thanks! Oakley -yay for Aquage! That brush looks amazing. Funkyart which style do you think runs wider? My feet feel much better. My left foot doesn’t hurt at all anymore when I have them on. The right foot still does but I suspect it will take awhile for that foot to settle down. I really need a pair of comfortable (standard work with almost anything black) boots/booties but don’t really like their styles. Theres one that’s ok but I wish the toebox was shaped a little different. Going to order more sandals. Im going to look into some of the other sandals mentioned here too. Thanks Eld. Yeon -The small bottle (they have a large size too) has a dropper and I just put a drop on the applicator and run it along the top. Another drop for the bottom and drop right at the beginning of the spooly brush to use on my brows. It sounds like a lot but I have over half a bottle still. I don’t recommend brushing the oil on the lashes with the spooly brush (mascara wand) because the oil is so thick it just beads up. It’s kind of gunky feeling but doesn’t irritate the eyes at all. I do it right before bed and sleep with it on. In the morning I just rub my eyes. It seems some of its absorbed in because there’s less. ETA - Thanks for suggestions about exercises. I was thinking there was probably stretches or something I could do to help. I'll check it out. Justerrilynn -They look great! And nice ZZ plant too....See More- 11 months agolast modified: 11 months agoSuzieque thanked juneroses Z9a Cntrl Fl
