This reminded me that I was recently pondering whether having bee/pollinator attractors around a mailbox might give mail carriers the heebie-jeebies...?

Only relatively recently was I introduced to spring chicory leaves sauteed with garlic. Delicious. I immediately got seed and have been growing it ever since. It's proving hardy and has come back from two winters now. You still get the flowers.

FWIW, when I grew chicories, I liked to make a salad with the greens, feta cheese, walnuts and those extra sweet mini peppers, dressed with lemon juice and oregano, S&P - so good!

I grew a culinary blend from Pinetree - I've always loved the flowers too, and thought they couldn't grow here, but I grew them in a large outdoor container during the cooler months and some of them got really big.

Ah yes, "Purple Prince " -- pretty much interchangeable with "Benary's Giant Purple", the color is gorgeus.

Chicory grows like a weed here. It IS a weed here...it's everywhere.

Yeah, chicory is definitely a weed here in Northeast Ohio too. It grows amid the Queen Anne's Lace in some areas, and I love to see that. Altho more and more mowing is done along the roadways. Sometimes I see a white chicory plant among the blue. Once I tried to transplant one but the roots were really deep and altho I managed to dig enough the plant didn't make it.

ETA: I didn't plant the chicory at the base of the mailbox, it just decided to grow there - many yeas ago. I mow it off in the Fall. One bonus is the finches love the seeds and it's a special treat to see the Gold Finches perched on the spent stalks surrounded by lingering blue blooms.
