Thought I'd share a pic before the chicory stops blooming. Despite the dry hot weather, the zinnias aren't doing too bad.

My goodness, this thread takes me back in time! Mighty_turf, I ended up not using a solar cover on my 10x12 HFGH (decided my climate really didn't require it) so I am no help on best places to purchase. I believe conventional wisdom is that most heat loss in a greenhouse occurs through the roof. If I were to purchase one I'd definitely cover the roof, and probably lap it down the sides a bit, depending on the size I ended up ordering. Hopefully others here will have more specifics for you. If not, I'd consider starting a new thread with your specific questions about solar pool covers, to get a few more eyeballs on your questions. (Sometimes newer threads get more attention...?) Evergreen vine for wood fence - would like to cover in a year

Creeping fig will get between the slats and grow over to your neighbor's side and ruin the fence, but as hoovb noted, wood fences don't last long anyway. If you have any sewer or septic systems nearby, do yourself a favor and pull it out now. It's real trouble if you have a crack in one of your sewer lines. Creeping fig also prefers full sun. Mine never grew at all in the shade, but the one on a south-facing fence is growing like gangbusters. It took a few years to get established. Is there any sun at all? If there is enough sun, you should plant more of them in March or April, about six feet apart, to get faster coverage. But they will not cover the fence in a year, and the 2x4s will still show when it does cover the fence. For covering ugly fences, I am a big fan of shrubs over vines. I started with vines, but found that they grow to the top of the fence, form a big wad up there, and get bare underneath. Sometimes mine would cascade beautifully down the other side for my neighbors. Ingrates. I don't think the Madagascar jasmine is a fast grower, and I'm not sure what the purple honeysuckle is. We'd need a botanical name to give you more info on that, probably. The vine I am most happy with after years of gardening is star jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides). Evergreen, coverage from top to bottom of the vine, glossy green leaves, heavenly scent, and easy-care. It would require some attachment to the fence. I bought a big one (15 gal) so I would not have to wait for coverage and it has been fantastic. An all-around great plant. Renee

Thanks, Scott. I understand that I'm just trying to keep whatever day heating I get from the direct sun in the pool overnight. I saw those fish things while researching yesterday and I'd definitely need more info before I'd dump chemicals into my pool. Probably wouldn't work anyway because of our location, waterfront with no fences and a prevailing sea breeze. I don't see our pool "still" very often. Also, I plan to continue swimming laps until I can't stand it any more and we'll use the spa throughout the winter. Last night we were debating "diamond" pattern vs "circle" patterned bubbles. Ugh.

Mailbox Halloween decor this year

I decorate for autumn/Halloween, and took it down on Halloween last year. Will do it again this year. No point in avoiding everything just because I won't hand out candy. A modified version goes up for Thanksgiving.

Only relatively recently was I introduced to spring chicory leaves sauteed with garlic. Delicious. I immediately got seed and have been growing it ever since. It's proving hardy and has come back from two winters now. You still get the flowers.

FWIW, when I grew chicories, I liked to make a salad with the greens, feta cheese, walnuts and those extra sweet mini peppers, dressed with lemon juice and oregano, S&P - so good!

I grew a culinary blend from Pinetree - I've always loved the flowers too, and thought they couldn't grow here, but I grew them in a large outdoor container during the cooler months and some of them got really big.

Ah yes, "Purple Prince " -- pretty much interchangeable with "Benary's Giant Purple", the color is gorgeus.

Chicory grows like a weed here. It IS a weed here...it's everywhere.

Yeah, chicory is definitely a weed here in Northeast Ohio too. It grows amid the Queen Anne's Lace in some areas, and I love to see that. Altho more and more mowing is done along the roadways. Sometimes I see a white chicory plant among the blue. Once I tried to transplant one but the roots were really deep and altho I managed to dig enough the plant didn't make it.

ETA: I didn't plant the chicory at the base of the mailbox, it just decided to grow there - many yeas ago. I mow it off in the Fall. One bonus is the finches love the seeds and it's a special treat to see the Gold Finches perched on the spent stalks surrounded by lingering blue blooms.
