USPS tracking… is it accurate?

**UPDATE** According to tracking my package arrived at the PO in W Lafayette, IN (Purdue U) & was preparing for delivery. OOPS! Then it went it went back to Columbus, OH & now it is back in the local city! ARGHH! So I just finished speaking with an agent & submitted an inquiry to try to get it out of this looping. I should hear back in 1-3 business days.

We sent a package to our grandson at Purdue U in Indiana on July 31. Originally it was projected to arrive on Monday, August 4. No upgrade in shipping, no insurance, etc. We live in Ohio. The package has ping-ponged from Columbus back to the local city twice after several days of just being apparently stalled ”in transit”. Late last evening it was in local city, now this a.m. it’s back in Columbus.

Can anyone shed any light on why this is happening? The items aren’t really worth much, so we wont be out financially. I’m just curious why so much travel is involved?
