house from hell....new purchase
Comments (41)Organic small home, no apology needed. However, if you take some time to read over what I have posted, I sited very specific practices common to many home inspectors, which indeed, if avoided, provide a far, far better chance for the buyer to avoid your particular experience. You provided no specifics at all explaining your conclusion. However, as I have repeatedly acknowledged that performing due diligence imparts no guarantee of anything, Im still not clear on why you believe that I generalized by indicating otherwise. So...one more time; Practicing due diligence with anything...including in choosing and hiring a home inspector, serves to greatly increase ones chances of achieving the desired result. However, there are no guarantees...on anything. That said, Im sorry to hear that performing due diligence on your part did not work out for you. Hopefully, that will not deter you from doing so once again the next time aroundas the end result could be far worse. Best wishes....See MoreTreatment for Sciatica or arthritic hips?
Comments (23)The most important thing is to have a proper diagnosis for any and all orthopedic problems. Physical therapy can help, but if the exercises are treating the wrong problem, then they can make things far worse than they already are. The same goes for a chiropracter especially. Manipulations of the spine or any joint that are done without the proper diagnosis can do serious harm, especially if there is any osteoporosis going on or displaced joints. Please see an ortho doc that specializes in your specific problems and they will send you for the proper tests, usually MRIs to determine the problem. Then, together, you can formulate a treatment plan. Just swallowing pain pills will not resolve the underlying problem. Catherinet, you need a new PT person. The best would be physical therapists who are sports medicine ones. They are well trained in all kinds of PT as well as new techniques and fibromyalgia as well. As for how a knee can cause all kinds of problems and pain elsewhere, it's simple. If you think of your body standing up to start with and look at it that way, you will see that the pressure on your body, goes from the feet up to the ankles, the legs, the knees, thighs, hips, spine, neck to your head. Any one of those pressure points, when not moving or functioning correctly can and will throw the entire body off and cause pain both below and above it. For example, if you have a problem with your knee, then you are not standing on the affected leg, ankle, knee and foot. You put pressure incorrectly on the hip, all the way down to your foot. By doing that, you then put strain on all those joints, tendons, muscles, ligaments. At the same time you are pulling the spine and neck on that side off as well. As you do this to the affected side of your body, you start putting strain on the opposite side and you start pulling everything out of wack. Sometimes, what you are feeling a permenent pulled muscles and joint irritation from what is going on and sometimes it will create further medical problems from long standing problems with one joint. The other big issue is the spine. As we age, the spine starts to wear down, and though we may think that the pain in the knee or the hip is directly from those joints, the real problem is with the spine. Don't be sorry that the pain is getting to you. I've been there and no what that is like. I've had several orthopedic issues for the past 10 years and found out last year, that everyone of them was stemming from spinal stenosis in my lower back. When that was fixed, oh, the pain was completely gone, until my feet decided that they like my back the way it was before and created ortho problems for me. Got that taken care of and the ankles got pissed at both the spine and the feet. So took care of that, all with custom orthotics, good shoes and Pt. I just have to remember that I can't over do or I really get screwed. Like now. Really over did it last weak and tore a muscle in the lower back that needs big time PT and pain meds. If not healed in 4 weeks the muscle wil have to be stitched. Anyway, get the proper diagnosis for what is going on before you head off to a PT and if you are suffering from any kind of osteoporosis, a good doc will tell you to never go near one ans the manipulations will break bones on you. Try seeing a sports medicine orthopedic doc that specializes in spines. And below is a great link to a spine forum with lots of support and helpfull info. My doc thinks it's one of the best locals on the web for info and support. Click on the link and when the page comes up, go to the left side of the page and click on discussion forums. You have to register to post on the forums and use the live chat. same kind of thing as with GW, but its a wonderful site to be part of. I joined and love it there. Good luck and e-mail me if you want any further info or help or someone to vent to. Fran Here is a link that might be useful: spine-health.com...See MoreThe Stepdaughter from Hell
Comments (32)((((Bugfarm)))) You tried with her and it was set up against you from the start. All through your postings one question kept going through my mind: where is the mother? You answered in the final post: absent. The biomom, as you say hasn't "contributed one dime to the kid's upbringing" nor does it sound like she contributed much else. Your stepdaughter is enormously angry and has little self esteem or she wouldn't be taking those pictures. Self-confidence and self-esteem come from a parent paying very close attention to a child and personalities are formed in the first few years. Inattention can have serious repercussions, as you've seen, and even result in psychiatric disorders. Some children with strong personalities simply take over the house when the parents abdicate. She doesn't trust anyone and she's learned that she can feel in control through manipulation and bad behavior, as flawed as her logic may be. She doesn't trust you because she can't trust her own mother. If you feel you've done the best you can with her, and it sounds like you have, then put your mind at rest and work on restoring harmony in your marriage. Your husband stepped in but it sounds as if he's let you do most of the work for a long time. I hope he's apologized for the physical abuse you endured. That is unacceptable that you would have to live in fear in that way under any circumstances. That should be made clear in the future. Bless you, because you obviously had the strength and determination to try to do what you felt was right. Ultimately though, his daughter is his responsibility, not yours even though she's been living in your house. You love him and you stood in. But the stepmother simply isn't part of "the family of origin." Even with much more well adjusted children I've found this to be true. Few of them will accept what you have to say and perhaps its time for you to stop trying at all. Wash your hands of her and let him step in and deal with her in the future. Of course you love her or you wouldn't have tried so hard. I think the poster who suggested there's another side to the story doesn't get this at all....See MoreAphids from hell
Comments (24)Good point, Dave. Good discussion and debate for thought... I guess it all comes down to what works for you. I had a horrible aphid problem in my artichoke garden. That is why this post caught my eye. My pesticide guy told me that ants collect aphids and milk them on the plants. I did read up on this and there is a lot of information on the subject outside of what my Master Gardener friend and pest guy told me. But as a personal testimonial, instead of treating my artichoke plants for aphids and after my pest guy sprayed the path for ants, the problem was drastically reduced. As for house plants, this is very unusual and is the first time I've heard about aphids colonizing on indoor plants. If pesticide does not nip it in the bud, I would wash the plants daily until the problems is under control. Gail...See More- last year
