I was walking my dog alone, and he kept looking back, so I turned to look, and one coyote was probably 12' behind me. My dog is small and old (Oski), so I have a stroller with me for when he tires, so I put him in the stroller.

I growled like a bear and threw a wimpy piece of bark at one which had no effect. Shortly after that my two friends showed up with their dog, and the two coyotes continued near us for a short while and then drifted off. We see them a couple times a month when we walk in the mornings.

That’s scary.

socks, I chased four of them from our yard recently. One in the front yard and 3 in the back. I only saw the one in front, and the other 3 came running out when I started clapping my hands loudly. A couple weeks before that we had a dead coyote in our driveway. Animal Control came to remove it. Glad your little dog was safe. We’ve had plenty of encounters that didn’t end well.😞

@chloebud Yes, I don't mind coyotes much as long as they keep their distance. Actually ours don't respond much to the typical hazing. I did use a high pitched airhorn once, and the coyote didn't like that (unfortunately I lost it but should get another). We added onto the top of our wall at home to make it difficult to jump into the back yard where the dog is sometimes. We have had dogs killed by coyotes here and two incidences of small children being attacked by coyotes.

Wow, a mountain lion! Now THAT'S scary. You must be in a rural area or foothills. I'm in suburbs, so no mountain lions, but other wildlife like raccoons, possums, etc.
