I haven’t had good local berries in so long that those hard red impersonators from FL taste good to me!

We're just starting berry season here. We just had our first redcurrant shortbread. Plenty more currants, raspberries and gooseberries coming along. Strawberries don't grow well on my allotment due to shade, soil and snails but there lots available locally.

Our strawberry season was very short-lived, but am thankful for what we did have with all the rain. Our favorite grower/farmer’s market had some really good ones for several weeks, and we managed to get one of the last baskets Saturday. In May it rained every day except the 31st. Now for the peaches!

Yep....loving ALL the rain. No fire danger. Just took kittie kat out with me, shook his wet paws...came right back in!

Strawberries from the grocery store will have to do here too! Flowers are having trouble opening....

For shortcake or strawberry cake, I would just buy frozen berries. It is the fresh strawberry pie that needs fresh berries.

trawberries. The farmer said it was shaping up to be a fabulous strawberry season until all the rain started. I cant remember so much rain in May as this year.

I had to post using a very old device because I cannot log out on my iPad or my phone and I can’t post that is I can’t initiate a new thread. I’m kind of in limbo and other than blowing up my two devices, I’m not sure how to log off and re-login or whatever I need to do.

It occurred to me early this morning or last night to try a ancient device that probably has the first version of DOS on it that is how I did the test post. And I could’ve written something cryptic or profane, but thought I would keep it simple.

So I’m going to cancel the automatic updating of iOS on my devices because I think what happened was I was logged in and the machine updated to the new operating system and that totally screwed up my ability to initiate a new thread or log off. And I don’t have Emily Hurley‘s personal message email account so if you hear from her, would you tell her I can’t initiate a post and I can’t log off. Maybe I should try to sign in with a brand new account. I don’t think you can do that because wouldn’t the main works at HOUZZ recognize the IPS? But then what would they do? What if I had the same IPS and five different people at my household were using the same computer and Internet address and router?

I just asked my husband if I was early or late with the strawberry whining. He thinks that strawberry season is in June in our New England zone five area. Well it used to be zone five who knows what they’ve done to it now.

We used to get fresh strawberries, and the works the whole “strawberry shortcake kit “ at a farm stand run by Ben and Laura. They are long gone and their firm is probably condos by now. But it was so handy to go there for fresh asparagus and for fresh strawberries. They had a cooler filled with really good biscuits and whipping cream. You really must have fresh biscuits even if they’re not “shortcake“-homemade biscuits or even good grocery store homemade biscuit. But definitely not that cakey yellow biscuit that looks like it’s a foam sponge. I bet you know what I mean.

Really good whipping cream with fresh strawberries on a freshly made biscuit. That would be one of my “last meal“ requests.

I have never been able to grow strawberries and I have a bunch of strawberry plants. I think they are one of the types of berries that give you a bunch of berries throughout the summer it only when I saw a bit of one of those strawberry plants in between patio blocks growing and offering up a big red strawberry Did I know that they actually could produce berries. But I don’t have the talent. The birds eat every single berry in sight that isn’t nailed down or under a net but with strawberries, I couldn’t get them to produce anything so someday maybe I will take a five week workshop on how to get berries from those interesting looking leaves.

On part of the lawn next to the road, there are wild strawberries – sweet and delicious little berries, but the birds beat me to these as well. I know what they taste like because we always collected and ate them as children.

Everything is very overthrown here in the month of May was almost all rain. I think it was one of the rainiest Mays in New England, rating is around the seventh since the universe was formed.

Here in North Alabama, it rained everyday in May except the 31st.

Oh, Sherry. I hope it isn’t hot as well. Whack weather. Manitoba, western and central Canada need the rain.

The high will be close to 90. ”70 is good, 80 is better, 90 is fine, and 100 isn’t bad, lol.

I get a little uncomfortable between 102 and 107, but as long as I have a pool, it is fine.

I remember a couple years ago when the smoke from the Canadian fires blew our way. It was weird . The sky was orange and it felt like dusk all day. You could smell the smoke. I think the smoke is much higher in the atmosphere today.

It is not orange, but is white. Hazy white. No clouds, no blue, just white. And you can smell a fire, faintly, like a camp fire.

Our strawberry season is JUST starting. Some years it's hard to get a good crop because rain causes them to either rot in the field or in the container before you can eat them. But it's been dry here, so it should be a bumper crop.

I hope you figure out your computer issues. It's so frustrating! I did post on your Scientist thread, but it was weird because it kept saying "be the first to post a comment" and showed no comments, but when I opened the thread I could see my comment.

Husband picked six quarts last week and four a few days ago. I think he hopes to go again but they close on Saturday. It's the rain that shortened the season . I absolutely LOVED the rain in May. It was the rainiest May in our history going back to 1880 ...10 inches. But we needed it so bad because last summer, last fall, last winter, and first part of spring, were waaay below normal and we were in a half a foot deficit. They said our groundwater still was in a deficit but everything is flourishing and I know that bad stuff is coming. I hate summer ,hate hot weather and that's why I loved May when it was cool and rainy. A few nights it was in the 40s. My yard is so heavily treeed that I didn't notice the heat until I just went over to the doctor's office to give blood for next week's visit, and it was beastly in the parking lot.

Glad you enjoyed the rain. We needed it here — red flag days from a drought. Now all is fine and lush. It is wonderful to hear the rainfall and to smell the fragrant woods.
