Lost Part of My User Name

last year

New computer. I don't mind being just Sue, but would like to be able to 'find myself' as chisue. Can I fix this without losing the entire KT?

Looks like perhaps you logged in with a google account rather than your dedicated gardenweb account. Try logging in as chisue. Not sure how well the recover password works but you can try that if you’ve forgotten it. Or look for it on your old computer, if available.

I see Sue when I open the post but before I open it I see something else, not chisue. In the past Houzz has had a glitch and I have seen full names. I'm not sure if this is the case with you or not.

I've been using my first and middle names for something like 14 years. I found it's easiest to just be me and helps people remember who I am better. Maybe I'm getting old but I have a hard time keeping the association between user name and real name straight. I do dog rescue and people need to be able to remember who I am. As for the comment about not hiding that is very true. They just did a study recently and found that if people felt they could hide behind a username they were more outspoken if not downright cruel than if they used their own name. It doesn't happen here, but I see it in far too many other forums. This forum is like a garden -- a safe haven where names show interests and loves and are not cloaks of anonymity. I would try first clearing your cache in IE and firefox, then try firefox in it's safe mode, go to start, all programs, mozilla firefox> safemode. That will run it with out any of the add ons or extras to see if something there is interfering. You can choose to run IE with out add ons also. Then just to rule out malware I would do a malwarebytes scan, update it and then run FULL scan. How to download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware application for Windows computers You should keep this as part of your protection and update and run it weekly it is a much better program than ad-aware and is one more layer and it is free. I would also run an online scan FREE Online Virus Scan

Rhome...I always thought VW's name was whippy chick as well and until you explained your name several years ago I though it was pronounced Rome. Plllog...Your name has always thrown me. I thought it was lowercase l's until the other day someone wrote it as ones and then I thought I had been wrong all of these years. I still for the life of me have no idea what it means a post awhile back led me to believe it had something to do with technology. I have always thought lukkirish was lurk ish. Most of us must have eyes that play tricks on us. In fact, I generally do not read the liturgy at church or sing out loud b/c I always have the letters and/or words completely turned around. By the end, I am sure people question my ability to read!

I ran into this problem a few years back. Trying to remember what I did. I think I went to the Computer Forum and they told me. I remember I had to erase all cookies. Run a scan by using CCleaner and tell it to remove cookies. Then type in the address bar gardenweb.com. Log in using your old name/password. I think that's what they told me to do on Computer Forum. I remember having to erase all cookies to Houzz and log in to Gardenweb.com. Don't log into Houzz. Jane

Yep. She’s logged in under a different account, that’s why I’m suspecting google which is a logon option.

OK, I'm on my old laptop, where I'm still chisue. How do I replicate this one-step sign-in on the new one? (Same problem with all my bookmarked sites.)

I think I have to call DGS (20), who did the set-up on the new laptop.

'Splain me about 'google' versus whatever THIS is?

I had to login via Google too when I had lost my user name because of deleting my login information. I got it back by going to https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/kitchentable, then logging in by entering my preferred user name and *most importantly for me* entering the password I had used with that user name. Passwords are saved in the browser that I use, fortunately, otherwise I would still be using Google. Best of luck, I know how frustrating it can be.
