Nina, are you back from your road trip?

While I enjoyed the movie, it was more intense than expected.

I’d like to discuss the final with Walter and Iris. I understand Iris is saying everything she to say now-deceased Walter, but why the dachshund?

this is what i got from bing's owner...

"It’s like a dream sequence after her therapist tells her to write about her loss. It’s her way of healing some unresolved issues with Walter. She intentionally writes/dreams about him in some subtle ways that would irk him if he was still alive. Like having a small yapper instead of Apollo. And she is able to let go of some things to start healing."

Eld, I took it that she was writing a book about Walter and finally overcame her writer's block and Walter's dog in the book, since it was fiction, was a dachsund. And she is discussing this with Walter. Maybe Ninapearl will have a different take.

I don't want to see a sad movie so not sure I'd enjoy this one. Just had to chime in and say that my nephew has a harlequin Dane. His name is Walter. He's the chillest dog I've ever met.

I had a similar situation when I was a young bride. We had just bought our first house and I met one of the neighbors shortly thereafter. She was younger by six years but very nice. Strangely we had the same name. As time went by she copied so many of my ways, bought the same car, painted the house the same, wore similar clothing. When we put in a driveway, they did the following week. My husband made a front door for me out of old wood and I made a stained glass window with lead around it in clear antique glass, I carved the door knob for it and we still have that door. It was charming and went to each home we owned. Didn't she hire someone to duplicate my door. All the while we were friends and she had shared some of her unhappy life which she definitely had experienced. I tried to never react to her copying as I knew she was fragile. I went on to open a hair salon while I was at my art studio two days a week and working for four days. She then decided to go to hair dressing school, still said nothing. I had a Russian blue cat I named Sooty as they are grey. She bought one and named it Pooty.!!!! I am not kidding, still I stayed calm but, when she finished her course at hair dressing and got her license, she started coming to the salon daily and staying all day. Then I started to get annoyed, after one month of showing up daily I asked if she'd like to meet me for coffee. We met and I explained that the clientele and the people working for me felt awkward with someone watching them every day. She put her cup down, got up and left, and never spoke to me again. She died at age 50 from a brain tumor. She had left her abusive husband, went off with a woman, cut off all relationships from her children and mother. I felt so sad about all this but her Mom was a friend to me by now and explained the background. The father had committed suicide as well as her aunt and two brothers. Then I understood she couldn't help herself. I still pray for her family.

Kelley - I think if my little valencia every produces I will try to grow from seed just to see what happens. Every January I setup my seeds, heat mat and grow lights in our kitchen to start all my plants for spring. I will add that to it if it every happens! MyerMike - thanks! I have been on here posting the pics since about 2016 when my poor lisbon and bearrs lime were sunburnt when i first put them in the ground. It was my first time planting a tree(we had just got the house) and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with them and I just didn't want them to die. I'd killed plenty of trees previously on a patio that was in full sun. Even my local nursery gave me BAD advice. I couldn't believe it. The good folks here have helped me get my trees thriving. I've since added a few more trees(and I want to buy more every year). I'm so thankful for this forum and all of you! Helped me help my trees. Nules - those lemons and limes are so beautiful! What do you do with them all? I hope to one day have a lime crop like that!!

Oh, Frosted! Be careful! I know, it's too late now, you've already messed up. Just kidding, so sorry about your back. Man you have to be so careful. I hope it resolves quickly. Back pain is no fun. I like that floor lamp and hope, in due time, you get it together and it does just the trick. My hubby was doing some "work outside" items and man he scared me. I told him, we don't want a trip to the ER because the shovel hit your toe or some such thing. He just doesn't get he can't do what he used to do. Yikes! I am praying our above degree temperatures down here will help kill this doggone virus. So far, our immediate area doesn't have much at all. Of course, we have our share of "stupid" people who make it hard on everyone else! grrrr! Stay safe everyone. Happy Day!

my dane girl threw a wrench in my plans by developing a UTI just one day before my planned trip so i missed all the fun. i'm still really sad that i didn't get to go! judging by all of the photos and descriptions of the evening posted by my friends on facebook, i really missed a great time. on a happier note, i got antibiotics from my vet and pippin seems to be kicking the infection to the curb. i just did not feel comfortable leaving her in the care of someone else when she was not 100% healthy. i have a wonderful dog sitter i use on the rare occasions that i am away from home overnight but i would have been too worried about pippin to be able to really enjoy myself. had it been just an hour or 2 away from home, i could have managed better but being 5 hours from home was just too daunting to think about.

the movie was very emotional for me and for many of my friends who have loved and lost dogs, particularly danes. while the dog in the movie did not die and the ending was a happy though emotional one, the whole premise of the movie was poignant. anyone who loves their dog (or any pet, for that matter) would be spurred on to make whatever provisions they find necessary should the need arise where you are no longer able or present to care for them.

bing was amazing in the movie, they could not have found a better dog to play the part. it was fun for me to see so many similarities between him and my dane boy (who is one of bing's littermates). they have many of the same mannerisms and facial expressions and the same sweet personality.

i knew ahead of time that bill murray's character died by suicide. that's always a sad event, obviously, but the movie makers were intent on following the plot of the novel.

eld, you'll have to refresh my memory as i do not recall seeing a dachsund . murraysmom, to my knowledge, the dog in the novel the movie is based on was a harlequin dane. i know the cover of the book features one. this is the reason the movie company did such an extensive search to find just the right dog to play the part and how bing was chosen. to hear his breeder/owner tell the story of how this all came about is truly incredible! i will have to ask her about the appearance of the dachsund and let you know what she says.

Thank you Nina.. Glad to hear Pippin is doing well.

The dachshund is in the last part the movie and even mentioned in the voice over.

I loved watching Bing and have only met one Great Dane in person and it was a harlequin as well, but the markings were much bigger.

FOAS, your vet is probably referring to a recessed vulva where the anatomy of the dog is such that moisture gets trapped in "extra" folds and that can lead to chronic UTIs. keeping it clean and dry can help. i've only dealt with routine UTIs a very few times and a course of antibiotics was all they needed. i'm sure you can find lots of information about the surgery via google. sorry i'm not much helps with that. while i've never tried it, i'm going to ask my vet about giving my girl "d mannose" which is a supplement for urinary tract health...

as for the subject matter here, we are talking about a recently released film that stars naomi watts, bill murray, and "bing" the great dane. i am friends with bing's breeder and my frank is one of his littermates.
