Problems getting contractor back for finishing touches?
Comments (20)1) There should be some screws on your hinges that allow you to drop the door slightly to fix that - easy screw driver fix. 2) Window screens - call the manuf. or company purchased from and make a stink - if you don't know the company purchased from, the manu. should be able to look it up - most have a time limit so do this now - we DIY'ed our Marvin's and the company we ordered through (only company in the area) sat on ordering a few screens and other stuff as a few were ripped too but Marvin straightened it out and waived the timeframe after I pitched a few fits. 3) Light in cabinet - get a battery powered one - problem temp solved till you hire an electrician for something else - that doesn't have to be done now. 4) Trash - for smaller things that can fit in a trash bag - get contractor grade (I usually don't bother as they don't have the ties built in) or Glad flex at the grocery store - for really heavy stuff like rocks (yup... don't ask) I double or tripple bag with grocery bags - hey, we recycle and then glad flex bag and throw it in the regular trash - just check weight size of how much cans can be and do it at each pick up - we usually do 4 cans when needed. And, when we did our windows we put out 4-5 panes each and they actually took them. Anything big like wood we cut up and put in trash bags. We just pull the stickers off our yard waste trash cans :) and convert them back and forth. Takes weeks, but better than a dump run. Trash guys when we go in those spurts must hate us. Take a picture before you work on your pile. If its outside and cold - pick one day, get a bunch of bags ready so on trash day - all you have to do is grab them and set them out. You can put a reasonable amount out at a time and they don't look in the bags. 5) Threshold - get a handsaw and just cut and nail in or get a friend/family member experienced DIY - shouldn't take very long if you have any skills. Stop chasing the guy to pay him... he wants his money, he'll ask... but that trash would annoy me (which is how I came up with my plan as I'm too lazy for a dump run). Give it a few months, get rid of the trash, DIY the rest, then go out for a nice dinner, and put it in savings given how the economy is. :)...See MoreBella Notte Bedding - sis2two and others let's discuss!!
Comments (7)How does the pin thing work? Is there fabric that goes on top of the box spring and then you pin the skirt to it? I know you had mentioned in the other thread that it was awkward to use. I am a little concerned about that - but the BN skirts have a 22" drop and that is exactly what I need because my bed is very high off the floor (I actually have bed steps to get into bed) Most "normal" bedskirts are too short. I very much love the look of dust ruffles so would want to get one. I really like the whisper linen duvet cover - I am thinking of getting that in ginger and doing the dust ruffle and coverlet in champagne. I could then do shams in ginger, pillowcases in champagne, and maybe an accent bolster pillow in seaglass for a touch of color. I love the slouchy look too!...See MoreNeed help with Bathroom finishing touches please!
Comments (25)Oh my goodness! I feel like a little kid on Christmas! So many good ideas! I love my gardenweb friends! jakefield Thanks for asking. I never did a bathroom reveal (which I feel a little guilty about) because I never figured out how to post multiple photos. Would it be crazy to post more photos individually like I did here? I obsessed over the mirrors because I was concerned about a finish so close to the shiny chrome light fixtures. I really wanted to drop pendants, but I'm not very tall and my husband is over 6' so I went for function over form and these lights offer a very even, flattering light. After searching Kirklands, (thinking I would silver leaf them), RH, and ordering custom made from www.pictureframes.com, I decided to call a local glass fabricator. These are 28 x 44 and cost $105 each. They have picture frame hooks on the back. Mine were made with a bevelled border. The glass people said customers often buy pictures at TJ Maxx, remove the picture, and replace it with a mirror. It's pretty inexpensive to do. You might also like the "Hovan" Mirror from Horchow. I have that in my powder room and just love it. google it, lots of other sites have it as well, and it's always on sale someplace. Let me know what you think. The fixture over the tub had to meet height regulations, and I purchased this as a semi-flush mount. This model also converted to a hanging fixture, and I only used a few links since the ceiling was high enough to allow it to be hung that way. It was from Bellacor, about $330 with free shipping, and I think I may have had a 10% promo code. C5623-CH Crystorama Lighting Polished Chrome Hampton Crystal Three-Light Semi-Flush Chandelier Draped With Oyster Crystal Accented With A Silk Shade joaniepoanie the color is BM Glass Slipper, more blue than gray but very soft. The accent tiles are an opalescent translucent, and while they are not as green as they look in the photo, they can look a little green in some light. I think you're right about needing something soft... boopadaboo, I will take a look at Smith and Noble. I have no art, nor anything else picked out. Kind of at a standstill, but thanks to everyone, I'm starting to get eager again to finish this room! oakleyok I don't know anything about plantation shutters. When you say two tiered do you mean so the top will open like french doors, and the bottom stay closed for privacy? The idea of a wardrobe or chest is a good one too. There's no linen closet so I could sure use the extra space. itltrot and pricklypearcactus I really like the idea of the roman shade. I wish that Pottery Barn Shade came in my size! Maybe I can get one made at Smith and Noble? Has anyone ordered from there? patty_cakes the Austrian blind is so pretty too. I forget there are so many types of shades! beekeeperswife, thanks for the compliment. You have one of my favorite kitchens! I ended up doing this bath after I got too overwhelmed in the planning stages of doing my kitchen, but I'm back at that now. You have been a source of great inspiration! I never thought of going with a higher piece in the bath, but I think it could use the height. That Ballard piece could be just the thing... Annie you are so observant! So far I've just been hanging the towels on the shower door towel bar, but that 's a great idea! "Floating" is the perfect description, and the bars would create an anchor and a nice vignette. I could even still fit another piece like a small chest or the etagere there. I'm going on Etsy and Ebay to see if I can find some towel bars with crystal. I have never seen those Delia shades before. They are remarkable! I'm not sure if they will offer enough privacy for the bathroom (I emailed them and await a response) but I will sure remember these for my kitchen. I love the Tulip Arabesque. Stunning! You have also been a great inspiration. I have no idea how you managed it all without being overwhelmed! I appreciate your help here and all you have taught about color palettes... pricklypearcactus the stack bars are pure genius. That will also probably help absorb a lot of the echoing that's going on in that empty room. joaniepoanie, Janice, Bee, annz, I love the idea of a top down, bottom up. The duettes and silhouettes are so simple and easy peasy. I could do that online. Would you just leave them or put a valence up? aktillery would you suggest traditional bath mats or something else? I have some simple white cotton rectangles, but they just look so scattered...maybe it's just because the room looks so unfinished? Annie and pricklypearcactus, there is a thread here someplace that is hysterical about standing vs. teaching boys to sit. It's a little like the delicate Toto discussion. I've been around here long enough to know better than to go there...lol Anyone who has spent any time on the bath forum knows what I'm talking about! :p...See MoreDaughters bedroom finished! Comments (23)Love the bedding and the pink accent items. The bedside lamp is super cute. Perhaps a valance or some curtain panels in a pink print like used in that toss pillow on the bed would add a nice touch to the window. Good luck finding some art work/pictures for the walls....See MoreNora Lambert
