If you are knitting a Baby Surprise Jacket...
Comments (3)I have been borrowing my sister's copies of her books since Christmas. I heard of her only recently from DS. Go ahead and start the sweater from your copy of her pattern. You do have THE pattern in the book. She laments she is not a very good pattern writer, and I have to agree. Lots of online information, however, is available on her pattern too. One lists how to vary the size by using other weights of yarn and needle sizes. I am using worsted weight and size 6 circular needles for DGS who is 15 months old now. But ask here if you get stuck. Once you have made one, you will be addicted. And it is a great way to use up yarns you have not known what to do with as well as scraps too. I had a couple of varigated yarns that just did not look right in other patterns I tried, but they look great in the BSJ. And then stripes look great in this pattern, especially with a solid main color, so the scraps are disappearing too....See MoreNew EZ Knitting Pattern Book at Schoolhouse Press
Comments (3)In the new Schoolhouse Press BSJ pattern, I understand a child's size is included. I have made toddler sized BSJs before the new pattern was available. The most recent was a size 3 with suggestions from a site someone here suggested. I used larger needles and Red Heart Super Saver worsted for the larger size worsted yarn. At every place in the pattern where I could increase size, I did. I added length to the back flap, but I also took out the diaper ease row of 10 new stitches across the back as the intended wearer is slender and out of diapers. I added sleeve length and width to the fronts too. Hope this helps....See MoreDo you knit?
Comments (37)I do --- and I will try this out tonight - I think size 6 might be too small - maybe a 7 needle - or maybe even an 8. Darn - Just remembered my DIL has all of my scrap yarn so I can't try it with Sugar and Cream. If you look, you are starting at one corner, (bottom right), then increasing until you reach the middle (top right corner, bottom left corner). Then you start decreasing until you get to the other corner, (top left). It is a garter stitch (all knit) - Do a long-tail cast-on - I am sure that is in the book - or on the internet --- just sit in front of the computer screen. Cat Bordhi has some great You Tubes --- some are almost like she is talking to a child - but she is good. Then you need the yo (yarn over) which creates the holes, then the K2tog (knit 2 together) -- that makes the decreases --- Sugar and Cream yarn is about 2.29 a ball - so really cheap. Let me know if you have any questions. It may at first seem like you are getting nowhere - and you are all thumbs -- but persevere - it is worth it. I would start by casting on about 15 stitches and just practice knitting back and forth for awhile. HTH...See MoreFor all my Knitting Friends - kinda long
Comments (10)I started 2 knitting projects this year. A knitted Log Cabin afghan I got bored with. And a knitted washcloth I had about three-quartes completed and lost. I think I left it in a doctor's office but they didn't find it. Must have looked like garbage. It was in a rastty looking plastic bag. But with a beautiful set of bamboo needles. That's what hurt the most!...See More- 12 months ago
