Duvet vs. comforter (vs. daybed cover)?
Comments (3)My DD uses a comforter on her daybed and it works just fine. However, it really is not long enough to drape down on both ends of the bed since most comforters and duvets are made to only reach the top of the mattress on the upper end. Given the placement of her daybed, this is not an issue since there is not much open space and she had nightstands. It more than makes up for the ease in making the bed and she can sleep under the comforter (or duvet). This shows what I mean as you can see her sheets peaking out the side. Even if she draped it over the edge it would not be so comfortable for sleeping under since the comforter would be bunched up around her head. As for what forhgtv describes in terms of the width, we just tuck the comforter down the backside so that it does not become displaced at night while sleeping so I don't see that as a concern. From what I've seen of the daybed covers, it is more for decorative purposes and meant to be completely taken off the bed when sleeping. It wouldn't seem that practical for daily use--esp. in winter when you require heavier blankets. I would think with that option, you would cover the bed with just the cover and then makeup the bed with the blankets, etc, when you have a guest similarly to what you do with a sofa bed. My other DD has a duvet on her bed. I like duvets for their ease of washing. Hers is from Pottery Barn and seems generously sized--most likely still short to cover both ends....See MoreDuvet (Cover) for comforter
Comments (9)I had the same problem. Most comforters don't come in that size, I didn't find them at Lands End or Cuddle down. And fabric dosen't usually come in that size either. I did purchase a down comforter from Pacific Coast, the "Grand" down comforter measures 120" x 98". It's the largest I've ever found. It's a high quality down. pacificcoast.com has them. Any way then you can't find a duvet to fit. So I searched e bay for oversize fabric pieces. I bought Ralph Laurens 'Guinevere" fabric on EBay. It was advertised as a "semi" finished" duvet and it measured 120 x 102. The duvet cover came finished on 3 sides, I bought snap tape and sewed the top closed myself. It was the best $80.00 I've ever spent. Good Luck!...See MoreISO cotton duvet cover or comforter - please help!
Comments (2)Credomk, welcome to GW! You're right about getting some great ideas here. Have you thought of painting your furniture for a different look? Maybe you're not finding bedding because the furniture is a little outdated, and the bedding seems 'out of sync' with it. Penney's has some wonderful duvets as well as comforters and bedspreads, and they're not over-priced. Good luck. ;o)...See MoreDuvets, comforters, bedspreads, covelets, what's the difference?
Comments (8)After reading CB's comment, I suppose there is a lot more confusion about this than I thought! haha. My understanding is: 1. Comforter - can be like CB described, a bed-in-a-bag thickly stuffed fluffy blanket that goes on top of the bed. It can also be a high quality down or synthetic fill fluffy blanket usually sold in white, but can come in other colors as well. 2. Duvet - is the decorative "envelope" for a plain down comforter. The comforter is placed inside the duvet and the duvet usually has one end with buttons to secure the comforter inside the duvet. This allows you to have the comfort of a down blanket with much more extravagant decorations than down comforters typically come in. 3. Bedspread - is used in lieu of a comforter most times. It is a decorative blanket, usually much thinner than a comforter and has a nice decorative detail. Is used on top of the whole bed normally. Is usually a large size that covers the length of the bed all the way down the sides to the floor 4. Coverlet - more like a quilt. Smaller than bedspread. Lots of people use these to fold at the foot of the bed and use to keep feet warm to to pull up to provide extra warmth during the night....See More- 9 months agolast modified: 9 months agoAnnegriet thanked martinca_gw sunset zone 24
