The results are in.....

My surgeon called me today with the pathology results. Yes, it was cancer. No surprise there. It was the most common kidney cancer and very slow growing. He got good margins. No further treatment (such as chemo) needed. In 6 months he’ll want to do another CT scan.

so my results are in from the lab. We have about 2000sq/ft. It's at least 20 years old KBG/Fescue mix in Northern VA. any tips/recommendations? Since I need more (K) I was thinking of using Scotts Winterizer in Sept, Oct and Nov. I am open to Organic alternatives as well, where can I find some? I've also begun adding Milorganite to the mix to help with the organic matter. there is also quite a bit of thatch, hoping that manual aeration will help this Fall. Qhat should I put down after, I heard I can disturb weed seeds by doing that.

Sorry Andrew, I didn't answer your question. Yes, they were all adults (no cocoons or vemricompost added to start). Thanks Borderbarb, I'll keep home schooling in mind. The possibilites really are endless, aren't they? Couldn't help myself, I started seasoning another bin today (that'll be bin 9, the final piece in the puzzle). I've left cardboard to soak for a few days, then I'll add some compost (ex "hot" compost bin) and some food (maybe 2 cups of kitchen blended scraps), and leave to brew up for a fortnight. This time, I might add more worm than I started my others with. I think I'll do a sort from bin 1 (again, yes I know, poor planning, should have been ready to go now! Oh well.)and add a couple of hundred, just to boot things along a bit. Cheers

I'm very happy and relieved for you. Congratulations!!! I'm probably one of the worst at waiting for test results; I just hate it. I'm so, so glad you've got your results. About the parent thing, others have already given you so many wise words. I'll add this. I think having regrets after a parent dies is to be expected, whether the relationship is bad or good. I definitely had regrets after my father's death about our relationship. I didn't understand him, and we didn't have much in common. Plus, he had anger issues. Large ones. I do get why he was angry, and he had a right to be angry. But HIS children didn't deserve his anger. I have a great relationship with my mother, but I'll still have regrets when she's gone, mostly about not making more of an effort to spend time with her. A friend (who had lost a child and her parents) told me once that she knew she had loved her children unconditionally and had done everything she possibly could for them, so she had no regrets concerning them. She said that she did regret not having spent more time with her parents and not having done more for them while she still could have.

Hmmm...maybe it was not strong enough? While I don't like anything related to cigarettes/cigars (just my personal opinion) - but like nicotiana plants in the garden :) - maybe if you used real tobacco leaves it would work (not sure where you would find them thou!). Surprising, since nicotine is quite potent. maybe it works better on young rather than mature bugs?

Sorry to hear that it was in fact cancer, but glad it was caught fairly early and that you don’t need chemo. Chemo is no fun at all.

I hate hearing cancer but given it was expected, it really does sound like about the best news you could have reasonably hoped for. I'm very happy for you, and hope you’re feeling better physically as well!

I'm sorry it wasn't a benign diagnosis but I'm thrilled at the 'clean clear margins'. What a bonus - no further treatment needed! You are done and can put it behind you. Two years ago my sister went through a year of aggressive chemo. I wouldn't have told you earlier but I was so worried all those months, I thought I could lose her to the treatment and had quit worrying about the cancer. As it is, it permanently damaged her adrenal glands and she'll take a steroid daily the rest of her life.

So, upwards and onward. I hope you are feeling much better from the surgery and can enjoy a lovely peaceful holiday next week. I hope too the new year will be completely good for you! Thanks for sharing your good news!
