Been a crazy day... Xmas lites, kitty cat & roses...
Comments (16)Thanks Sylvia! If the deer stay away I could still have a few odd blooms here and there up til New Yr's. So hopefully I'll be posting some more throughout the next few weeks. Yeah, I think I caught her true persona in that pic!! "Pistol" is the mildest word I can think of for this little stinker! Thanks Jim, Ingrid and Irisgal!! Thank you Florence. I love Christmas too, but it tends to get to be too much anymore. I used to love to decorate inside, but our house is so small, and with my older son moved back in, everything is so cramped. And little Miss Lola and her two buddies (we have two other cats) just get into everything, so it's just not worth the hassle. That's why I concentrated on the outside. And I know it's a bit early to put up the lights, but I'm glad we did it, because it's going to start raining this weekend and possible snow just a few miles above us. And I'm beginning to see a few houses around town lighting up too. I love it! Connie, TWO new kitties?? We almost adopted another one last week. One of the employees at a shop across from my craft shop came over looking for someone to take this adorable white and grey fluffy kitten. But I was good and resisted! I love those plastic ornaments. I have lots of them, but I just know they'd be all over the house! Our other female cat Ginger has a huge collection of toys all over the place. We're constantly stepping on them or kicking them around. Sometimes she collects them all under the dining room table, or under my computer desk. She cracks me up. I love cats! Oh, and Lola has been smacked a few times by the iguana. She just keeps going up and messing with him anyway tho. And, that ATV.... I could just "kill" my husband. He's a garbageman, and he drives me crazy with all the "good" crap he brings home. The ATV was given to him by one of his customers. It isn't running right now. It'll sit there for the next several yrs til I make him give it away to someone else. Just like the old engine-less Camaro he had sitting in the upper part of the backyard for 4-5yrs. I finally had my son put it on the free list on Craig's list, and some guy came the next day with a lift and took it away! Now that spot is where my main pot ghetto is!!!...See MoreWhere to find a good quality white artificial Xmas tree ?
Comments (20)I went to Target and they had one white xmas tree in the whole store and I put it on hold. Went to Kmart and they were sold out of white - Martha Stewart brand. Went to Lowe's and they were sold out of white. Went back to Target and bought their tree. It has a metal stand and lights and is 7.5 feet - will try to get it up this evening or tomorrow. acoreana, our giant cat adopted us. He used to live next door and they kept him as an outdoor cat. One day I heard him meow in the perennial border while I was weeding. I called him out and noticed he was real skinny and scared. He stayed around in our yard for three weeks as an outdoor cat and we fed him because he was so skinny. After a while we wanted to name him a name that started with a B (because our other two cats names start with a B), but couldn't think of a good name. Three weeks went by and he was still here. One day we saw our neighbors outside and we asked them if they knew anyone who had lost a cat. They said - well we haven't seen our cat, but he is a free spirit and goes wherever he wants. We didn't even know they had a cat. We said well he is over here, and they said, is he bothering you, and we said Ohhhh nooooo - he's not bothering us (by this time we just loved him) When we were all departing we said - by the way what is his name - they said his name is Butter. When they said his name - we knew he was meant to be our cat. They told us he was mauled by dogs when he was younger. They have 4 dogs - he shivers if he sees a chihuahua and he is bigger than them - so that's why we think he came over to our property. They have since said as long he is happy that is all they care about. That's how he adopted us. I call him little because he's sweet - but he is a gentle giant. He follows me around in the yard like a dog and is a wonderful cat. Thank heaven for small favors. Here is another photo of Butter in the garden....See MoreSupplies needed for new cat?
Comments (37)I join those who encourage you to not let her outside unless she's on a harness (*NOT* a collar) and leash. Or consider a dog kennel type setup where she's confined. Meow Mix is a low-grade food. I'm not going to get into arguments over food but I'm a firm believer in a better quality food. I noticed a *huge* difference in the coats on my animals when I started feeding them Eukanuba. I won't change. It's a well respected brand and food. Good foods won't have as much stool to clean up, will give a better coat and even help their teeth. Wet food will build up on their teeth where dry food will help clean their teeth. I've never had a problem with a cat not drinking. I "free feed" mine where some don't. I have no problems with it. Speaking of food, avoid dairy products. Contrary to common belief cats are not by definition lactose intolerant. Like humans, some are. But it's still better to give them less. First, they don't need it after weened. And they should have mama's milk before that. Second, milk is not part of their natural diet. I give mine an occasional treat of ice cream about the size of 2 peas. That's all she wants and that's all she gets. Other treats I seldom give. It's better to feed them a good quality food. Occasionally some get tired of their food and complain but they'll eat when hungry. Keep in mind cats and dogs are carnivores and need animal proteins in their foods. Cheap foods use plant proteins and that's inferior. They won't get the same nutrition. Avoid foods that contain the word "gluten". There's a lot to learn on food and a lot of misinformation out there too so I won't go into all of it right now. However a good diet will eliminate much of the odors in the litter box. They're no different than humans in that respect. If they get an upset stomach, their waste will smell. Small objects on tables, counters, etc, may soon become toys. Don't leave earrings, rings, or anything valuable out unless you want to take a chance. Claws. You'll need to get a claw trimmer. Don't use a fingernail clipper, they'll split the claws and can cause damage. I like the ones that are like scissors with a little "square" in it that cuts. You have much better control. If the cat is a longhair, even a shorthair, you might want to get a brush or comb. Start combing/brushing them young to get them used to it. Mine enjoys it. Some cats shed nonstop, mine sheds very seldom (but again, a big part of that is her diet). Pets are rewarding. I'm sure you'll enjoy having her around. Yes, sometimes they're frustrating, not unlike kids. Cats need exercise and sometimes they'll give some to themselves. But a stick of some sort with a string on it is very entertaining, and they enjor chasing it. Also laser pointers are great toys. Mine comes and literally screams at me when she wants to chase the red dot! Her other toys? Bottle caps for one. And she likes to dig a scrap of paper out of the wastebasket and scoot it around. Don't spend a lot of money on toys! Most stores like Petsmart or Petco will have a list of suggested things for a new cat. Don't go overboard. The litter box, dishes, food and the like will get you started. Any dish will do, however, plastic dishes are being frowned upon these days. I do use some though but I know people who had trouble with their cats and the vets said it was from plastic food & water dishes. They didn't specify that the ones designed as pet food dishes were bad but using other ones. Again, could be controversial. But a glass or stainless steel bowl might be in the house and solve the issue. Discipline. Might as well address it. I have a spray bottle set to a stream and filled with water. If she does something she shouldn't it'll shoot across the room and you can hit them without hurting them. They don't like getting wet. Sometimes if she's about to do something she shouldn't I just reach toward the bottle and she changes her mind! Cats are inquisitive. Remember that. Cats own you and you are to serve them. You'll learn that....See MoreCat"s & trees - cartoon
