This is what it took to get a bottle of Frangelico open

and as you can see, it's still not open -- but at least it's open enough for the liqueur to dribble out

I just could NOT get the bottle to unscrew or at least the plastic off the top in one piece to get to work on the cap below. The only reason I bought it was for a couple Tbls for a recipe. D*mn!

Sounds like the bottle spent too long on the store's shelf or in transit to the store and the cap got stuck solid. I'd return it.

You have some cool retro stuff, that's for sure. And I totally get trying to make it all work, that used to be me trying to cram a room and a half worth of furniture "finds" into one not-big-enough space. I'm still not quite over it, but I'm a work in progress! A comment and a suggestion... First, the suggestion. Have Mr. Muscle move out one piece, either the hutch or the hoosier. Outside, another room, or whatever. Clear your room of junk or plastic bins or whatever other clutter you wouldn't have out if you were trying to show your house. See what you think. Sometimes, you really have to come to a parting of the ways with furniture. And no matter how cool or how nicely refinished or how rare, a piece that doesn't work for you and ADD something to your home needs to find another home. I had this in my dining room: It was a Santa Barbara California ebay find for $99 maybe 5 years ago. It never fit my style. It stored my dishes but not nearly as well as the prior buffet I sold to make room for this. And it always bothered me on some level to have something that didn't work with anything else in the room. Last month, I put it on Craigslist and sold it the first day for much more money than I paid for it. My dishes that were inside are sitting in a rubbermaid tub on the floor. Don't care. Glad it's gone. Now, the comment.... While sometimes people came for dinner and exclaimed over my antique buffet, the room just didn't work with that piece. No one said, "What a pretty dining room you have!" When you have too much furniture crammed into a small space, even the good pieces or the nice antiques, actually detract from the home. As to the question about whether bugs can get in, the answer is yes. There's a TV show about failing bars that shows bugs that have gotten into the liquor bottles with pourers. That's a really extreme case of how are you still in business, but apparently it can happen. I would think it would happen more easily without the flip top. I was given a lovely set for oil and vinegar and it just seemed to make the oil go rancid faster. I have one with a built in handle that I use for liquid dish soap to look pretty on the counter. :) For the oil, like Islay Corbel, I'm fine with the pourer that comes on the bottle and the twist cap. I do try to anticipate, and loosen the cap before getting a hand dirty. :)

Well I think for $17 I will try the Oster. It is has over 6000 reviews on Amazon and is one of the better ones in terms of reviews. We have a bar with a lot of unused counter space so that's not a concern. If I had to put it in my kitchen I definitely wouldn't get it as I don't like much stuff on my counters. If it doesn't last I won't get another. Thanks for the feedback - always helpful and interesting to hear others' perspectives.

Oh my! Usually there's just a perforated tab you pull and the plastic coating comes off to reveal the top you remove. Wow!

The thought of returning it crossed my mind, but by then I was too irritated and went at it...don't think they'll take it back now LOL! At least I didn't smash the bottle to smithereens, I must be mellowing as I age...

And that hazelnut semifreddo better be darn good after this exercise in frustration.

work gloves, you forgot the work gloves. My husband uses the same tools you do but also work gloves to open stubborn bottles. Report back how the hazelnut semifreddo is.

There is a false top that you can remove by twisting it off and pulling it up, and then there will be a cap beneath it that will be easy to remove. The plastic top on the top does nothing and should be discarded as soon as you buy the bottle.

Online suggests running the top under hot water to loosen the sugar and the plastic false top.

mxk, I’m glad this happens to other people, too. You should have seen me with a new bottle of Elmer’s Glue the other day.🥴 Lots of attempts, including twisting with pliers but no luck. Turns out all I had to do was pull UP on the little top cap. It was different from our old one, and sure looked like twist vs pull was needed.🤷‍♀️

^^No, it did not. I had a little bit of it once it was set but threw the majority of it out. It actually never thoroughly set like it should have and had kind of weird gummy texture. This recipe sucks. Complete waste of time and money, and now I have a jacked-up bottle of Frangelico that I have nothing else to do with.
