And youhave your animals tick protected so if the tick latched on, gets HUGE due to over eating as I have seen--they are easy to find and kill and the animal host is fine.....

Oh no! Wherever could it have gone? Deer ticks are the worst kind, as Im sure you know , since they carry Lyme Disease. Ticks are just so yucky. Maybe vacuum like crazy then put the dust in a sealed bag outside.

Curious about the tape technique. Can't you just squash them and toss?

floral, no, they don't squish well when not engorged. They are very flat and hard and can move faster than you think. I find sticking them to scotch tape and folding it over them and sealing them in works best.

I have my girls "gooped" so if they attach, they will die and fall off. So there's that anyway.

Dog ticks don't carry Lyme Disease. So there’s that.

I use Frontline so my dogs never had tics, or at least I have never seen any.

You can push a pencil lead into a tick and have it's little legs pop up backwards and it can still get up and walk away. They are tough to kill. I suggest flushing.

I am happy in being a person that insects dont like. In all my years in tick country I only once had one latch on to me and it was just grabbing my skin to hang on.

Did you do a thorough check of yourself? I really hate ticks, them and centipedes. I get centipedes sometimes in my house and if I couldn't find one after I first spotted one, I'd lose my mind. A few years ago my daughter and I met my son in London for vacation. My son finally showed up a little while after we had checked into our room. So we were all resting up before going out that evening. I laid on the bed reading a book when a centipede fell on my chest. I nearly had a heart attack. I flung it off me, yelling. Couldn't see it after that. Luckily after some digging around in the bed covers my son found it and got rid of it. I wouldn't be able to sleep in that room if he hadn't found it.

Maybe it got a dose of poison from the cat it rode in on and fell off to die?

Among other reasons as well, this is one of the main ones my cats dont leave the house. They never had one on them and they never take meds. I have found them on myself hiking on the trail. Lyme scares me.

One reason I use tape, even if I have squashed it immediately, is so i can ID it in case one of us has been bitten by a tick. If you have an issue with the bite, it helps to know what got you.

Using tape to enclose a tick is the best method of disposal -- apparently flushing does not kill them, and there is the possibility that it could make its way back out of the toilet (shudder). And being able to identify the tick a la taping it is an excellent idea, I am told.

More than 40 years ago, before much was known about Lyme disease, and it was not as prevalent in most areas, our family went camping with the Boy Scouts for the weekend. On an island just off the coast of RI. DH, a scout leader at the time, was bitten by a deer tick, and got the characteristic red bulls-eye rash some time later. And then a couple of years after that, he got bitten again, same scenario repeated. Two bouts of Lyme disease is not recommended!

My SO insists on setting fire to ticks we find. All our pets use flea and tick meds because we are surrounded by woods. But they still try to attach themselves, usually to the cat. Sometimes to us. No matter who they try, if SO is around, they are getting cremated. I just flush them.

I am a person who loves all wildlife and most insects. The only ones I detest are ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, and houseflies. The latter you can squash with a fly swatter, but setting on fire is the only way to get rid of a tick.

If I had tick lurking around indoors it would probably be hunted down by the spiders which hunt during the night ;-)

Oh man. T'is the season it seems. I am battling fleas in 2 dogs. First time I have seen fleas on any pet of mine in decades. Usually the monthly topical is all I need. I'm fighting the urge to peel my skin off and burn the house down. 🤣 Good luck to both of us!

I remember those hot humid summer days before we got home AC. It IS a nightmare because once fleas come, it's so difficult to get rid of them. Pets had treatments but the dogs brought them into the house and the cats. We went on vacation and even though there were no pets in the house when we returned from Cape Cod, the house was infested and a real nightmare. We had to bomb and vacuum over and over. With the House AC I keep it cold and very low humidity which doesn't allow them to thrive. So none for years now, thank heavens.
