I get surveys (too many) after doctor and hospital ( imaging, blood draw, etc) and i always answer those although sometimes i feel like yelling ”I told you that the last time”.

Occasionally, I will respond to one of those online "How are we doing?" type for a retailer or service I use. I leave reviews for Etsy and eBay purchases and for Amazon delivery experiences. I don't answer the phone so I don't have to deal with phone surveys.

The more you go the more you will be asked to participate in.

There is a difference between an actual poll, conducted by a polling company, and a customer satisfaction survey generated by a retailer.

I used to get political polls but would eventually bail when they did not take just a few minutes and they were pushed. When the only answers possible are the opposite of what I think I am out of there-after telling the person the poll is pushed.

Polls & surveys - no & never to phone calls - I don’t answer unknown calls or texts; online - too scary to think about; in person - for anything even local stuff - I veer away to avoid being asked - they usually require too much personal info along with signature. Reviews of products & services received - often, yes because I do read them myself for purchase decisions. Exceptions - medical visit surveys.

I’ve obviously made an exception to my personal rules here by responding to your poll / survey. 😊 But, I don’t place high importance on poll results, especially the current political ones going on & being reported ad nauseum. Maybe those can provide an overall sense of which way the wind is blowing but the polls never provide source info of who/when/where poll was done. Also I’ve watched too many ’man on the street’ surveys where a comic is asking a general knowledge question of passers by. The answers mostly make one want to cry in despair over the state of our failure to educate & inform. My previous statement is made with a caveat - only the most entertaining of answers are put up for viewing - the correct answers wouldn’t be entertaining.

Nope. And I often wonder just *who* would -- and whether those people aren't just larking around. Years ago I agreed to answer some telephone survey by what sounded like a reputable polling group, but soon found the questions funneling to a desired bias.

Yes, absolutely. In fact, I belong to a couple of reputable, well-known research company sites that do surveys (one general, one professional), and I will occasionally answer phone surveys or medical surveys forwarded through my doctor's office. I believe in the value of good information, and accessing data is the only way to get it. Maybe ironically, I don't do any of the "how did we do today" kinds of questionnaires (though I did answer some questions from a volunteer at an art gallery in Scotland).

Yes, I do answer my phone even when I don't know who's calling. I think more people should, frankly.

I used to love participating in focus groups and getting paid for my opinions. I resent being asked to take time for their market research if they don't cut me in on their budget! Although I do occasionally post reviews on Yelp. And here I am now, taking time to answer this question, for free :-)

No. I used to have a good excuse: I worked for a market research company. But I have answered a couple of polls that turned out to be actually campaigning for one issue or person or another, the questions started becoming leading. So I don’t do any, anymore.

When I was a kid, we were a ”Nielsen test family” for a few months for a snack that became Bugles. We loved them! Still do!

We were a Nielsen family decades ago - it was really interesting; they paid a nominal amount, along with installing devices on our TVs. I like to think I helped my sister's TV show out in the ratings just a little.

I don't pick up unknown numbers on my mobile phone either. I figure if it's important, they'll leave a message and I can call back if necessary.

We were a Nielson family for a short while back in the 1990s. I remember journaling the radio stations I listened to, time of day, etc. Each week I’d mail back my journal and they’d send a new one with a couple crisp, new dollar bills.

All calls to my smart phone and VOIP ”land line” are routed directly to voice mail if the caller is not in my contacts. I’m leary of the link in text requests. On-line surveys, can you say Cambridge Analytica!? Link to article

We were not required to keep a journal, just push a button on a set top box to indicate we were watching.

I kind of enjoy doing surveys and polls, and agree that it can be important for research. I'll do customer surveys when there's some sort of compensation or reward offered.

I'd take a poll here or I do tons of product reviews. I won't answer a phone survey, because it generates MORE phone calls. Also a lot of people say they want to ask you a few questions, then they want to sell you something.

No. I do respond to customer surveys concerming products or services I've purchased or been provided ONLY when my experience was strongly positive. Otherwise, not these either.

I do for a few of the stores I shop in. And, they make a difference. I complained a few times about my local Gap keeping the fitting rooms locked

I never answer the phone after checking caller ID if I don't know the number. I will answer in person to any person canvassing or polling and tell them more than they might want to know.

Rarely, mostly because at the end of the poll they start asking personal questions like education, income, age, etc.

Most polls need that kind of demographic info to be able to weight their results.

I do Market Research and do phone polling. People like my demeanor, and I regularly get thanked for doing it. People have also told me that it's important to give opinions and that's why they do it. I do various topics, everything from if the city should shovel snow off the sidewalks, to a new casino being built, to education and political.

I get complimented often, that I have a nice phone voice and I speak clearly and with intonation. I even got a job offer once which was very cool!
