Anyone else got the flu that isn't in the vaccine?
Comments (15)Got my flu shot in October and a couple days later came down with a cold. A nasty, nasty strain of cold is going around. I've been coughing for just over two months. Violent coughing at one point. So violent that I pulled a muscle in my side. Ran a fever last week and was out of work for two days. Haven't had a fever for 30 years. Have gone through two combo boxes of Day/NIght Theraflu, a bottle of Nyquil, 11 bags of cough drops, a 10-day course of Augmentin (antibiotic) that made me sicker, and finally, a 5-day course Z-pak which has nearly stopped the coughing. Saw my doctor for a six week checkup yesterday and since I'm still not 100%, he ordered a CT of my sinuses to see if I still have some kind of infection. Yep, something really nasty is going around (though I don't think it's the flu) and I'll be so happy when it's gone. Jodi-...See MoreHad my flu and pneumonia vaccines today.
Comments (35)Very interesting, alisande. Thanks. Why didn't you have the injection done by the pharmacist? Similarly but in a different sense, I remember some years ago that my own primary care doc at the time told me that his practice didn't have the refrigeration equipment to keep one particular vaccine (I forget which) at the low temp it needed and suggested I get it at a pharmacy or a larger group practice. He's since retired and my new doc is part of a larger medical school faculty practice. I haven't had a similar experience though I do go to a large pharmacy location for annual inoculations needed off cycle from primary care doctor visits....See MoreThe Covid Vaccine
Comments (36)I've had an opportunity to hear the senior people at NIH, CDC, and NIAID speak to the board of my organization. Please people, talk to your doctors before you consider opting out of the vaccine - there may be some people who are well advised to wait, but please don't jump to that conclusion based on something you've seen on TV or social media. The vaccines have gone through a wider and more rigorous testing process than most medications - simply because this happened more quickly than usual does not mean that corners were cut, just the opposite. We are so incredibly lucky that these first vaccines have such a high degree of efficacy, but if there is widespread hesitancy (or worse, belief in conspiracy theories) the herd immunity we are all desperately waiting for in order to get back to "normal life" will be much longer and more painful in arriving. There's so much misinformation (and disinformation, deliberately misrepresentations) out there; make sure you're making decisions based on informed medical advice. Fwiw my kids have penicillin allergies and I don't believe that's a risk factor with these vaccines (our pediatrician has told us that most penicillin allergies are actually reactions to the dye used, not to the medicine itself.) Finally the use of Walgreens and CVS to distribute the vaccine is a deliberate choice - apparently some huge percentage of Americans live within 5 miles of one of these chain pharmacies. This is all part of the strategy to ensure that the vaccines can be made available to as many people as quickly as possible....See MoreAre you eliglble to get the Covid vaccine now? If so, have you?
Comments (95)Happy to say got our 2nd Pfizer doses today. As i have said before in other threads, I felt like it was a scavenger hunt. I followed every rumor, signed up every where I could. When it seemed that I really got us appointments I was still thinking it wasn't going to be. The only good thing i can say is that at least for us, the dispensing was so incredibly well run and orderly. We had 12:15 appointment , got there about 5 minutes ahead, waited maybe 5 minutes and got our shots. There were no long lines, but a constant steady light flow. It seems they have it together. They don't really examine what time your appointment is but just confirm that you are scheduled for the day. That way it flows nicely. So , so far only a little soreness on my arm as I had last time. Hopefully that will be it. YAY....See More- last year
