A quick update!

last year

I know I have not been around much. My life has drastically changed since my husband passed away so suddenly.
I have had some serious health problems. My kidney's have gone into failure a few times. I don't like hospital time especially alone. I have great friends and neighbors but no family here.
For that reason after lots of pros and cons and serious thinking I have decided to move back home to Louisiana where my family is.
I have bought a very cute small house that is a very open floor plan and will be easy for me and my power chair. My contractor is traveling there from Houston to do minor repairs and painting the interior. Wonderful man and his crew are amazing.
I have sold my house here in Houston. I will be leaving in a few weeks. It's been a mad house getting everything packed. I have my friends helping me. It happened so fast my contact was accepted in Louisiana and the same day my agent brought my buyer here and he wanted the house. Both are all cash sales so pretty quick and easy. Louisiana closed Tuesday and Houston will close soon.
My new house is in a no flood zone but I will always have flood insurance. It already has a whole house generator installed! That is a great bonus! It has a massive covered lanai / porch in back. A very large shop building I will put my crafts and sewing in there. It's already set up with grab bars in the bathroom and shower. The previous owner was also in a wheelchair.
Mia is still with me. I almost lost her during the extended power outage we went through this summer. We both had severe heat stroke. We are both still trying to get our strength built up. She has lost weight and her arthritis is getting worse. But sometimes she acts like a young dog.
So that pretty much sums up what has been going on in my life. I think I will be happy back in Louisiana. I know I will enjoy the food. I've lost a lot of weight and I am afraid some might come back with all the wonderful food I will be around.
After I get all settled in I will try to get back here more often. I miss y'all! I need as much support system as possible.
I'm not sleeping much as is shown here I am writing this at 2am!
Keep your fingers crossed I can get all this packed before the moving company comes!

Thank you everyone so much! It means a lot to me. I have been frantically packing. Lots of help from friends and neighbors. My contractor has been sending me videos of the progress at my new house. It is looking like a brand new place. Thankfully hurricane Francine did not do damage to Lake Charles.

I will post pictures as soon as I have it unpacked and done!

Wow, quite a lot happening in your life. It all sounds like it's falling into place. The quick sales on the houses seem to be a sure sign that it was all meant to be. Wishing you much happiness and health going forward. Glad you've checked in.

Good to hear from you, but so sorry for the circumstances. I lost my husband of 55 years, about 3 1/2 yrs ago, so I feel your loss profoundly.

Louisiana is a wonderful state, and I am happy for you to be near family and your house sounds wonderful. Much love to you and Mia.

Thanks! How close is your coco from reaching that goal and hows your coco's doing? Mine has a new spear coming up but it may or may not open before next year. Depends on how much more heat we get. Right now temps have been on the cool side, like 70f-80fs for day temps and like low/mid 50fs at night. A little cool for coco's but still warm enough for slow growth and to stay outside. I don't think this year is done yet with warmer temps but we will have to wait and see. @ stanofh- Yup. I think that was the problem. The top of the soil was holding too much water and wouldn't let it seap through. And thats the reason I just had to buy it lol. I seen how beautiful they are in SoCal. I should have bought the triples but I wanted to test it out with just one first. They are more expensive in triples even though they were smaller plants than the single. I figured the bigger the plant the better chance it has to survive our winters. It should be alright unless we have another cold winter. Even with the last few winters I seen several survive as well as some majestys and fishtails.

Thank you all so much for your messages. In case any of you hear the song "I'm so excited" from the Pointer Sisters anytime soon, that's been my theme song this week! I figure I have a long wait (it seems to me) until my doctor's appointment but God is teaching me to be patient through all of this, it's a lot of waiting. So right now, I am embracing the excitement and I'm going to try not to worry until I have a real reason to! I am so convinced that the prayers everyone said for me and my positive attitude (even when it was hard to not get negative and worried) totally contributed to my test results coming back in my favor. I also eliminated a lot of stress in my life and it's changed my life tremendously. I'll surely never be the same after this experience and I am a little excited about that (in a weird kind of way, of course). This surely has made me a better person, I'd never thought I'd say that about a cancer battle. :)

I don't mind you cabinets at all, it's the backsplash that needs to go. Something simple, with some texture but NOT mosaic pattern ;) As for lights, these are the best...canless led downlight. They look like can lights but just clip to your drywall. Your electrician will drill a 4" or 6-in hole in your ceiling, add the extra wiring and clip these lights in. Super quick and easy. Looks awesome. *I just pulled a random image from the internet. Talk to your electrician about the best brand to use.

Big changes for you but sounds like everything fell into place quite quickly. It's really nice that a contractor that you know and trust is going to travel and do the minor changes for you. One less thing to worry about.

It’s so good to hear from you, Raven. You’re a strong person to take all that life has served you, so well!! How terrifying to overheat (one of my big fears,) and I'm so glad you both made it through. it sounds like your plan is working out perfectly—your husband would be so proud. Try not to overdo things and take it as slowly as you can. We hope to hear from you again soonish!
