I'm so glad you're at home. I swear they don't listen to anything a patient ever says. Especially over a certain age. We need people to fuss and scream at them, so I'm glad your husband helped you. You just get well

Money is such a motivator. Not a good situation. So glad your husband got you out of there. It's just not an infallible system. Hope your feeling better. Yay...your back!

Wow!. And I got tossed out on my ear because I wasnt going to make any more progress-because the surgeons would not allow me to put any weight on the broken leg yet. I have yet to figure that one out. No help increasing upper body strength, nothing to help me move around until I could actually be weight bearing. None of it makes any sense at all. Why no PT for you? Crazy. I am glad you are home and managing. Your DH sounds like a keeper. Our medical care can really suck.

WOW I had a complete hit replace and was out less than 24 hours later. That's frightening how people think because your physically compromised you can't think for yourself anymore. Gotta love our governement healthcare system.

Are you saying Medicare won't pay for in-home help because you signed yourself out of the facility? There must be a way around that!

I'm sorry to hear of your accident and wish you a speedy recovery.

Like chisue, I'm a bit puzzled by the denial of therapy services. Are you saying no home services covered, or is it no services at all? Could you go to a PT studio and be treated? If a doctor (whether the orthopedist or even your GP) were to prescribe these treatments, are you saying they would be denied?

@caflowerluver, I'm happy you are home, but sad that you had to fight for what you wanted from your healthcare providers. Were it me, I would contact my primary care physician and see if he/she would write orders for home health care. Medicare is a beast and sometimes it takes a knowledgeable administrator to figure out a workaround for unique situations. Another option would be to research what exercises are appropriate for the strengthening you need and do them on your own with the oversight of your husband.

^^^I came back to say basically the same thing Fun2BHere wrote. I thought about your situation a lot last night and today and it really bothered me, especially after I went back and read how you were ’treated’ or rather left untreated in the nursing home. A few 30 minute sessions in 24 days is not enough.

I’m not saying your sessions should be longer or strenuous, but movement is important in the days following surgery. I think you know this and it’s part of why you are frustrated. Even if you can only sit on the side of a bed, there are things a good PT can do with you to activate movement and avoid problems in the future.

I ditto Fun’s suggestion that you talk soon with your surgeon and ask about home health PT and a nurse to monitor you (mine came once a week and took BP, temp, blood ox, etc). PT was twice a week and I could have had 3x if i wasn’t able to do exercises on my own on other days. I also have Medicare plus BC (Federal) &Tricare, and I know Medicare paid for it.

So sorry you have had such a rough time. Thankful that you are home and feeling better. Hugs for you and for your wonderful husband.
