The ratio of bad recipes/bad advice to good recipes/good advice on the internet has got to be 10 to 1 or more.

There is no vetting or qualifications needing approval for anyone to post anything on the internet or (in particular) on Facebook. Ignore people or sources who manufacture their own reputations, amateurs and wannabes are a dime a dozen. Most of what's encountered is worthless, in my experience. There are more good sites from known and reputable sources available than one could ever need.

I've been falling down rabbit holes looking at the reels. There are a number of salad ones that intrigue me, with lots of legumes, etc. Sometimes the recipe is available in the comments, other times you have to try and read it while the video is going.

If I have to work too hard too to retrieve a recipe, I pass it by.

With FB, everything with a grain of salt.

I don't use FB much anymore, but I get caught up in the reels on IG, especially the baby/toddler ones (they're so cute!). I miss the ones with the "Everybody's So Creative" lady. The recipes were horrible, and her reactions were so funny!

I dont do face book but there is enough annoyance in the rest of the internet. Sites that promise a recipe but do not deliver or leave important things out, don't give you a picture of what they "make" and worst of all give you five minutes of looking at something like a potato that they roll around in their fingers showing what ever it is from every conceivable direction to no purpose whatever. They might be going to peel the thing or cut up the thing, in one case recently it was a coconut. How long do you need to admire the coconut before they remove the shell?

There are a lot of bad recipes out there. When someone talks to me about baking ("I saw XYZ on Insta/FB and am going to make it!"), I always try to steer them to good sites. I'd hate for anyone to get discouraged due to garbage recipes.

Worse than poor recipes is unsafe advice. I preserve food by canning sometimes, and in order not to get botulism and other illness, food must be canned correctly and safely, using NCHFP and other authoritative guidelines. But there are videos and sites that give unsafe canning advice, and not only do people use these recipes (some not realizing the danger, others who do) , some make a big point of their right to do what they want 'rebel canners' and feed it to their friends and family.

DH couldn’t stand looking up recipes, with all the preliminary stories. He has stqrted using a ChatGPT or something, and he says he gets a recipe, boom, and that’s all he wants.

If there is not a button for ”jump to recipe”, I just back out of the site. Oh, and I never look at videos for a recipe.
