Happy Independence Day!

Not "Happy Fourth of July" (a pet peeve). Enjoy your day off, but remember it's the Birthday of the USA and marks the anniversary of our separation from England. .Thanks to the founding fathers who gave us our Constitution, and to the brave service people and veterans who have kept us free and safe ever since.

It rained nicely in the afternoon yesterday, thundered a bunch, of course after I had watered!!! But no lightning, so that was a plus. I was online for a while, but started a new book about birds, and must have missed your post, Cricket. Hope you day was fine, not too much work to keep the family happy, and lots of help with the cleanup. There were fireworks going off all over the place which I could hear, not see. My new lawn mower arrived today, and I put it together before breakfast, since there is a heat advisory for some reason....just the usual ole 90+ but about 100% humidity. There was a smoky haze early in the morning, but the hosta were all perky with the cool temps from the night time. When it is about 76 at night, it is as cool as it will get from now until October first. At least then.

I just got one along with 'Purple Splash' but don't know quite where to put them, I got them because my friend has 'Fourth of July and it is always blooming and smells good too! Perhaps way out in my woods where someone will come upon them and be delighted! Jackie, your garden is always such a delight to see!

Trying some more. My newest seedling from So Lovely and Priscilla's Rainbow continues to change. It has a full cream edge now. The eye is darker that the photo, and the throat just glows. It has become more lavender and veined. Wilson Spider is going to have a small year. I thinned it last fall so less scapes and buds. Metaphor looking exceptionally good. Main bed shots. They come out better using panoramic view on the camera. That's all for today. These 5 were easy to post. Brad

Debra, Ruby Slippers is an oak leaf, it stays small, and takes some sun, the blooms turn reddish. I grow the smaller balloon flowers, have some pink ones too, they aren’t blooming yet. Happy Independence Day, or as I say, Happy Fourth (sorry, Jannie!). If Thanksgiving is Turkey Day, maybe we should call today Hot Dog Day?

Greetings from the Birthplace of the Nation, Philadelphia, where we have Independence National Historical Park, not Fourth of July National Historical Park. Big shindig in the city tonight. I'll watch on tv.

That's so funny, this morning when I was texting a friend I realized that I said "Happy Fourth". I told my husband this morning that I did and wondered why people don't say Happy "Independence Day".

Why do you think so?

Personally, I really enjoy celebrating our country on this day!
