Did the authorities ever determine the source of the real bullets? That should be the main focus of the investigation along with that flaky gal who was in charge of the guns and whoever loaded them with 'blanks".

I think it was a mistake for him to grant an interview months ago. What was he thinking. Whether he was truthful or not or whether his understanding of his actions and the events was accurate is beside the point. For better or worse, he locked himself into a video and broadcasted narrative.

I was taught to never point a gun at anyone (I did not intend to shoot). I bet there are other ways. An, of course, assume every gun is loaded, even if you’ve already checked. I know of someone travelling with an unloaded long gun, in an airport. When finally home, it turned out that there WAS a bullet in the gun. Overlooked.

I like Baldwin okay, but that accident is very distressing. A talented young woman is dead. There is enough poor judgement to pave a continent.

Was the young gun-munitions expert hired because she was affordable? Did anyone closely look at her background? Poor performance, inexperience, drug use?

It’s crazy that the videographer victim felt the need to be directly in front of a weapon pointed at her. Couldn’t some jig or remote device have prevented her from being in the line of fire?

There is another defendant, Hannah Gutierrez, already adjudicated and found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, and "Jurors found her not guilty of tampering with evidence in the case". So will he just point the finger at her?

according to testimony in the armorer's trial, there was only 1 live bullet in the gun. the rest were dummy rounds. i don't think they have ever determined just how the live round got onto the set, let alone into the gun.

her father is/was an experienced armorer and had worked on numerous movie sets. she claimed he was the one who taught her the trade. poor performance, inexperience and i suppose possible drug use (she admitted to smoking weed but claimed she didn't when she was working) are all good guesses.

I feel like there's an epidemic of laxity these days. So many news stories of bad things that could have been avoided if people with serious responsibilities had been vigilant and followed the rules.

Why would they even need a real gun on a movie set? Considering all the guns in movies, it seems to me that they would have some very realistic fakes by now.

This was clearly not intentional, but a terrible, tragic lack of responsibility from Alec Baldwin as a producer and others. Not that he’s on trial for this, but he’s always struck me as being driven by a very strong ego. Just wondering if it could have somehow been a contributing factor in this case. Let’s hope they find out exactly how something like this could possibly happen.

There's no dispute that a fatal shooting occurred, a real tragedy.

Was the shooting the result of a violation of criminal law? Then there should be a prosecution. Is that clearly the case?

The outcome of the trial is not going to change the course of history or affect the lives of the general public. I join in saying Yawn.

i've often had this same feeling. sometimes, his arrogance is astounding. the proof is in the pudding. his timing of this has me wondering if he really knows what's going on in the world outside of his own privileged bubble...

I cant imagine being successful as an actor if you did not have a strong ego. How would you do that? I Personally see an also ran movie on a budget. They cut money in this case in the wrong places. Does Baldwin bear responsibility for this is the question. I think so

It's hard to know what kind of evidence the jury will hear that might make this more clear to me, but I honestly cannot believe he's being prosecuted for such a terrible accident. I agree that the focus should be on the person who brought a live round onto the set. I don't know how you tell a blank from a live bullet, but presumably the woman loading the gun would know. Would an actor/producer be expected to know, or to double check the work of the person hired specifically for the task of handling the gun? I don't particularly like Baldwin as a person from what I've seen and read, but I kind of think he's getting a raw deal here. Maybe the jury will disagree.

In any event, it was a terrible tragedy for the person who died and her family and I'm sure for the whole crew.

I read somewhere the mention of a conspiracy targeting Baldwin, which is an interesting twist, though I can't imagine that's true.

I think it can be a matter of some actors having self-esteem vs being egotistical. It’s pretty clear where Baldwin fits in and his seems extreme.

Yawn is a reaction to a celebrity trial. Do you think it will change anything in the industry? Do you think it will change any behaviour of movie stars? I'm not saying it won't be fair, just that the results will be minor and short lived.

Pretty sure it's not about celebrity behaviour - it's about liability and workplace safety - right? I think it's reasonable to expect someone will not be shot to death at their workplace.

I sincerely hope Alec Baldwin is found guilty. He pulled the trigger and the death of that young woman was his fault entirely. He violated the second rule of gun safety: "Do not point a gun at someone unless you intend to shoot them". Why on earth was he pointing a gun at her anyway? Why not point at some inanimate object? They were only practicing a scene, so why not use a fake gun? The first gun safety rule is when you pick up a gun you treat it like it's loaded (with live ammunition), which he failed to use also. I'm sure his brother Stephen could have taught him those rules, if he had been willing to learn them, or he could have just Googled them. He actually violated all four rules.

Please don't make excuses for what this man did in his ignorance and arrogance, he doesn't deserve anyone's sympathy.

No, dismissed with prejudice. Charges can't be brought against him again, no further prosecution is allowed under the law. That's what the "with prejudice" means.

A serious error was given as the reason for dismissal. Evidently the prosecution had failed to turn over to the defence some evidence regarding ammunition. Once again, 'justice' is done over an error in lawful procedure -- granted, a *serious error* in this case.

I wish we had the Scottish possible verdict of "Not Proven", as well as "Guilty" and "Not Guilty".

It seems the evidence withheld had to do with the live bullet loaded into the gun, which Baldwin had no way of knowing. That’s why they hire an armer. In shooting a gun fight, it would be likely a gun is going to be pointed at someone, so they have to be confident that it is safe to do so. I really can’t believe he was charged. Glad the prosecutor resigned. A good outcome of a very sad situation for all involved.

Yes, in real life you dont point guns at people but these people are pretending real life and their pretend world involves shooting at each other. I agree it is and always been a dangerous pretense. There are as I understand plenty of ways to fake guns and gunshots. It probably costs more. or maybe the industry is resistant to change. Every time this happens there is a lot of noise about not using real guns ever again. There is I understand no way to mistake a live round for a blank. That responsibility would lie with the person in charge of the guns. My understanding is that there was another gun marked for another actor that had a real bullet in it. The prosecutor knew that and didn't disclose it. Hence the "dismissed with prejudice". The prosecutor is doing a lot of spinning to save her career.

If Baldwin hired a licensed driver to work in the movie and the driver had a car accident on the job and was at fault for some criminal infraction, like reckless driving, Baldwin would not be criminally charged because he hired that person. He might be financially liable, but not criminally. He should not be held criminally for the negligence of the armer. Why would there be any reason for a live round anywhere on a movie set, his gun or another actor’s gun? It’s crazy

I was poking about the internet and read in a Reuters article that there were six live rounds found two of which would have fit that gun. One of course was fired. I don't know if it is true. I think with the excellence of computer generated special effects these day that they dispense with real guns and blanks as well.
