Yikes!

Are there brown recluses in your area? I know you will keep an eye out and go seek medical help if it continues to swell and bruise beyond your previous experience or there are additional symptoms. I wonder if it counts as a worker's comp injury as it is not a direct result of your job but occurred at your workplace?

Lucille I don't think so about brown recluse. It's possible but I'm allergic to all bug bites. I never swell up from it. I just get nasty bruise. I'm lucky I've never been bitten on my face. It would look like I was in a fight.

I would totally suggest you circle the bruised area currently, so you can see if it grows?

Are you positive it was a spider? I've never had a spider bite, but plenty from fire ants, fleas, mosquitos, wasps and midges - also chiggers.

I thought spider bits were painful, not itchy - and also that only a few types of spiders actually have mouths large enough to be able to bite people.

Fleas and mosquitoes are the ones that will itch terribly for me, and mine always turn purple too.

That doesn’t look so bad. I have itchy reactions to spider bites, black flies, mosqitoes.

Not to minimize what you report as an allergy, but that looks like a fairly typical localized reaction; a true allergic reaction (IMO) would be different — more complex.

I have a spider over my bed right now, it’s at the ceiling - wall intersection and it is a ”cellar spider). I learned it’s ID from the insect ID forum here on GW. What these harmless spiders do it to web capture and eat teeny little insects that occasionally get through the wondow screen frame. Sometimes I just escort them outside, but the wise person on the insect ID forum commented that spiders that work indoors, will try to get back inside (someplace). Who knew! makes sense. This spider has never bitten me, but a type of house spider has. Painful welt and very itchy. I am not as kind to those types of spiders.

Thanks for asking. I'm doing good. Itching stopped and bruise isn't getting bigger. Just have to wait for it to fade away.
